Alright here's the deal. I have a 97 TSI auto. According to the dealership it has a LSD (locking) rear diff [they de-coded the VIN]. I have had 3 axle shafts from junk yards. 2 were from locking cars, the first one was from a non-locker. None of them fit in my car. There is a green "cup" that goes around the spider gears on the inner CV shaft. THe shafts they keep sending me have larger bearings that don't fit in my cup. I've noticed that my inner bearings are on an 18 spline shaft and the ones they keep sending me are a 22 spline.
Are junk yards just selling me the wrong or incorrectly labeled part? Or am I just being silly trying to use my old cup and not pull it our of the rear diff (which looks like I would have to drop the diff to do so, not sure). If anyone could post and installation / removal guide for a rear axle shaft, that would be super.
