Who here has a BM Tranny? I'm strongly leaning towards sending my tranny to these guys, and would like some feed back on some real world experience with there product. I plan on using there LSD, Double second gear synchros, AWD 5th gear, and of course the basic rebuild. I will be running a Centerforce clutch mated to a Fidanza flywheel. Thanks for any input.

I have a BM Tranny in my car and shifts really nice. They rebuilt my transmission with their 4-spider center diff., dual cone second gear synchros and EVO steel shift forks. They do very good work and have quick turnaround time. If you decide to send them your transmission have them put in their new 7000 series billet aluminum shift forks with the rest of the rebuild.

I have decided to make this a learning experience for me and I'm doing the rebuild myself. I'm still going with there LSD, and secong gear setup. I need to find a place where I can get shims though, anyone have any ideas? Thanks for you input, Blitz!

I tried to rebuild the tranny in my Celica and that was a BAD idea.. I think honestly if you dont know transmissions.. then leave it to the experts..

On a side note.. how much did BM Charge to rebuild the tranny with all the upgraded stuff?

It's under $1500 I think it is more around $1200-$1300. Well I'm no tranny expert but I'm going to give it a shot anyway, and hopefully I won't kick myself in the ass later, which has been known to happen.

My tranny should be here on monday from BMTranny, I'll post how it feels when I get it installed.

Don't go by their webpage for costs, it's outdated. They're now using aircraft grade aluminum shift forks that cost a little more than the EVO. My center diff was all but destroyed so they had to source a used one. My reverse gear didn't even have a synchro on it. Total cost: 2100 (includes 200 for shipping back and forth)

Keep in mind that I have a 90 so they had to replace the input shaft to accept their dual-synchro 2nd gear setup. (which also means new 1st gear)

I think 2100 was well worth it if I don't have to worry about it for awhile! Not to mention their customer service and turn around times are TOP notch.

Good luck finding one, atleast the 2g GST 5pd tranny. I had a hell of a time trying to finding one. Some places told me that they couldn't get one not even from Japan which is where they got most of their parts from. I ended up going to Bushur for a rebuild after I blew 2 diff. teeth through my belt housing OMG . They fixed the bh, put in my new Quaife :D, added some syncros, and rebuilt my tranny for less than $700 including shipping both ways. Shifts smoother than before

I strongly agree with you. I broke my center diff then rebuilt my friend and mine with a Quaife, and both of them blew up at almost at the same time with pitted bearings. Unless you know what your doing don't do it. Just my .02 cents

The 12-1800 for a BM tranny.. is not just a basic rebuild. You are getting alot of new parts as well as upgraded center diff, better 2nd gear, better 3/4 gears, billet aluminum forks, ect... I have one & am very impressed. Jeff Hill ran this same setup last year all season long w/ numerous 10 sec speed shifting passes.

Man what a cowinki-dink. My transmission grenaded going 65 down the high way one night. I cried.... But anyway I went to a salvage yard and i got another for $450 and I traded the exploded one in for $100 dollars. The new used tranny's 5th syncro just went out and I dont know what to do? What is BM and the advantages?? Wouldnt it just be easier to buy another for $1900 at buschur??

Hehe after my tranny blew up I went to the boneyard to find one and picked up one from a 1992 Hyundai Sonata 1.6L!!! Yea... talk about a Short geared N/T here.... While I only paid 70bucks. LOL... It's the biggest POS tranny I have ever used but I can dogg the shit out of it and not worry that i'm losing any money! Untill I get enough money to do a major rebuild on my stocker. Oh yea this tranny also has 189,000 miles on it. Plus the miles I have put on it yanking it into 2nd and 3rd really hard. Grinds but it goes!! My .02

does anyone know about that tranny company that is located in michigan that claims you can do all the burnouts you want even in third and forth gears if you have the power to do so. i went on their website a few months ago and now i can't find it anymore.

I've been driving for a few weeks on a BM race tranny. It shifts good but 5th gear is a little notchy. Hope it will hold up this race season with my new 2600 clutch:D

Larry, you obviously haven't built a race motor yet. ;-)

Having built a trans or two, I realize just how much Mitsu tranny parts cost. :-(

Feel comfortable getting a BM-built trans. Bean knows what he's doing.

SO GUYS I Have a question i plan on getting a gst or tsi 2g, now as far as installing it is it worth the time and effort, or will i have nothing but problems with my tranny. Is it hard installing the lsd, do u have to remove gears to install it and then line it back up my dad is pretty good with cars but he told me installing it might just gve me problems like something might break and stuff if i get a gst do u recommend doing this or should i jsut live with massive torque steer and traction loss, as far as mods go i plan on putting a 3" turbo back exhaust with evo manifold. and 1g bov or greddy and uping boost by way of dual stage boost controller, and clutch if it needs it, life centerforce

I factory trans is ok. I have my eyes peeled for a spare.

I think if the same options were ordered on a trans from

TRE
BMT
&
Shepard

and all three trans were treated the same after installation they all would hold up the same.

It's not a black art but a science. All three have done their homework.

The aftermarket needs to come up with even better center diff replacements and trans gears.

I have seen the rebuld VFAQ and have the actual shop manual instructions. I'm not afraid to do my own now.

As for center diffs the speed design four spider is the best since it uses a better cross pin.

I just wish tractech would make the gearless locker insert for our center diffs. No spiders at all and if you overload the thing the clutches will slip. That is better than breaking spider gears or a ring gear (quaife). No debris to take out other trans parts.
