92 Talon Tsi AWD, Florida
I have posted in the transfer case recall section and have pmed doug99rs. I need an answer like asap. Ok i will explain my situation again.

I have a 1992 eagle talon tsi awd. I brought it to the Chrysler dealership here in Tallahassee Florida. They are doing the recall but they have said that there is also a problem that is (in their oppinion) unrelated to the recall and are trying to charge me for it. So I am trying to prove that it is related to the recall and they should pay for it.

According to the service tech the tail housing extension has a brass ring inside of it that has come lose. This ring is supposed to hold the driveshaft in place. He said that this housing is not servicable so I must buy the entire new piece.

I disagree with what he is saying. From the picture I am going to attach it is clear that the driveshaft does not go into the extension (part #3). However it looks like the driveshaft connects to the input shaft. The input shaft goes inside the extension. Since the input shaft is inside the extension, this brass ring is supposed to keep the input shaft which in turn would keep the driveshaft in place. Since these two pieces are connected, wouldn't play in the input shaft cause play in the driveshaft.

According to the recall in step 25 in the procedures it says to rotate the drive gears by hand and check for unsmooth gear rotation. If any play and unsmooth rotation is detected.... replace the transfer case assembly. This picture has an arrow pointing to what it looks like is the input shaft. I will try and include this as well.

the circled areas are the parts im talking about. the input shaft is the name not output shaft. i made a mistake naming it, but u get the point. the circled area on the lower picture is the area in question. tell me what you think and if any of you are very experienced with our transfer cases please call my cell at 954-610-7117

It could be said either way. First the driveshaft does go into the extension housing. The output shaft is smaller than the hole on the end,the driveshaft slides over the output shaft into the bushing to hold it in place. The rear oil seal seals around the driveshaft. Now, play in the output shaft would cause play in the driveshaft causing the bushing to wear out and possible come loose. Although they are going to say a bent driveshaft, bad u-joint,bad motormounts ect....ect... ect... caused the problem. I'd say if the output shaft has play which it apparently does,it should be replaced but you'll probably have to fight for it!

thank you for replying. seems like no one ever replies to my threads. i just dont understand, i give detailed pictures and have a legitimate question that no one else has asked. seems like the only questions that get answered are ones about what size turbo should i get.

anyway, back on topic..... i am going tomorrow morning with my current argument and am praying that i can get them to shut up and pay for the damages. wish me luck to anyone who actually cares to reads this.
