Sounds like an airplane is chasing me when going down the highway

When I am cruising down the highway at anything over 65 mph it sounds like a f&*#$ing aiplane is right on my a$$. This vribration noise is coming from the back right of the car. The only thing I can think of is a wheel bearing, but do you guys have any more suggestions. I hate to go out and spend $120 on a part I don't need.

thanks,

Nope no clicking or rattling. It is a very loud vibration. Oh before I forget, I have a 95 talon tsi awd. I belive this happens at lower speeds, but I can't tell for sure because I have a very loud exhaust. However, you can really notice it right around 65-70mph, and then it continually gets higher frequency as you increase your speed. It is defanitely speed dependent, and not rpm dependent. One more thing, I pushed in the clutch while driving and drifted for a while to see if it was anything in the drivetrain, but the noise did not change when I did it. It was still just as loud. This is what leads me to belive it is a wheel bearing. I also checked the tire and it is perfectly balanced.

Bad wheel bearings have a roaring sound as you drive. I can see how it can sound like an airplane. If you lift that corner, you should be able to wiggle that tire if the bearing is bad. It definitely sounds like you have a bad wheel bearing.

sorry for taking ## thread but:

this mild airplane sound that i got as soon as i hit the gas and came form nowhere,
because AWD i coudnt tell.

after braking on a mitsu parking lot, mechanic told me that my transmission and tcase needs changing.

while leaving the dealer i hear a loud metal braking from the front and when i back up to see whats going on it sounds again.

mechanic told me that the sound might have been signs of tranny braking
so next time whatch those airplane sounds!
