Strange noise....Tranny or turbo?

My car has started to make a strange whining noise when driving. It only seems to do it when cold. Once the cars warms up the noise can still be heard but not as loudly. It's sound alot like a turbo spooling but louder and only does it when the car is moving. wont make noise if i'm sitting still and just rev the motor. At first i was told possible bearing on the input shaft. After having the tranny looked at (externally) they "claim" it's ok. Only other things i could think of would be a turbo on it's way out. Or. my downpipe seems to rub on the car sometimes, my other thought is that the turbo sound is being amplified through the car body. just a thought not sure. any ideas. thanks

Check the turbo for shaft play. My car made a similar sound just before I blew up my T25.
