how exactly does the reverse sensor work? i screw it into the bellhousing, and put the tranny into reverse and i'm going through every mode on the volt meter and hooking it up to the reverse sensor and i'm not getting any kind of signal. what exactly does it send through the two wires to tell the reverse lights to come on? i still havn't hooked it up since i swapped my at out for the manual.

dumb question but sometimes starting from the beginning solves problems easier.... when you are testing voltages is the key in the "run" position? if not no power will be sent to the sensor.

i believe it works by grounding when you put it in reverse. the shift rail has a divet in it that the little ball bearing falls into when its in the correct position. and when it does, it comes into contact with the outside of the switch assembly creating a circut. it would be in the same position at that point as if you unscrewed it and looked at it.

the problem could be elsewhere though, i am un familiar with how the auto sends the signal for reverse does it have the same type of sensor?

it's a m/t, and i've tried it with the key in the on position. but logic would suggest that the ignition has nothing to do with it because there is no way the tranny is getting any electrical power. i mean, there arn't any electrical plugs going to the transmission besides the speed sensor and the reverse sensor.

still stumped, thx for the suggestion though, any more ideas?

my expererience with the reverse light switch involves 1g awd only but heres what i know

-ignition MUST be on (ever see your brake lights come on with the key off?)
-car must be in reverse (duh)
-short the 2 wires on the harness together - lights should light up

like i said thats 1g awd advice only

oh btw check you fuses while your at it ;)
