i am looking into getting a gsx and i find that auto's are way cheaper and i found one for $4,500 auto and another manual for $7,500 now iam thinking if i convert it over it will be cheaper than buying the manual but i wouldnt convert it over till i paid it off.. now ould it be a wise inverstment on going to the auto with less miles and in better condition or paying more for the 5 speed. i heard on other cars like the supra that the auto drive train is weaker? is that so on the manual and like i asked before is it better to just buy the 5 speed to begin with... thanks...

By asking the question should I buy a 5 speed or Auto? You are opening up another thread that will decline into a 5 Speed vs. Auto fight in no time. Here is the bottom line. You need to buy what you can afford. Can you afford the more expensive 5 speed? Do you want to mod the car to make it faster? Will you have any money left to mod it? Will you be doing work on the car yourself (cheaper) or paying a shop ($$$) to do it? Finally can you "drive" a 5 speed?? I mean really drive a 5 speed, not just get the car rolling from a stop on an upgrade.

Personally, I bought an Auto, for my own reasons. 1. The GSX I found for sale was a steal at $1800 from the original owner. 2. As I have gotten older I have gotten a little lazy, I like not having to do all the work while driving. My Company work trucks are 5 speeds so I get enough shifting at work. 3. I live in a very dense population area so traffic is a problem sometimes. Holding a ACT 2600 clutch in for long periods of time in traffic gets tiring. I don't want to have a limp while walking the boardwalk at the Jersey shore cause I sat in 2 hours of traffic on the Parkway, holding the clutch in most of the time.LOL

In the end IM happy with my Auto, It has gotten much faster since I last ran it at the track with the 16g, but I won't get new timeslips till spring since the track are closed now. OH yeah, Im now making near 375 crank hp on my auto trans with only the upgraded shift kit and end clutches. 120k and still going strong.

Buy what will make you happy, when it's all said and done you only have to answer to yourself.

Both transmissions can be made fast period
Personally I enjoy my auto sure it is fun to shift but it is also fun to just cruise and relax.

I've meant to get an automatic for the last five cars I've bought, but always found a 5-speed in great shape first.

If the price is that much an advantage to go with the automatic, do it. You may decide you don't even need to do the swap as time goes on.

hey my car is auto maybe we can do some kind of trade or somthing or whatever im not an auto fan but could'nt pass the car up :talon: will have pic's in a couple of days

the fact of affording the car is not an issue the fact was that i asked if the auto drive train is weaker than the manual... thats the only question i asked.... i find that!!! THAT!!! automatics are cheaper.. there was no auto vs. manual starting in this thred... not once did i state hey is auto better than manual just asking is it stronger towards the drive train?

Auto't have been very fast. I think their is one that is in the 9's now... I recently found a 95 GSX for 2,300... Only it was Auto... Other than it bing auto and needed a new turbo it was a sound car.. Just wish I had the cash for it as I really wanted to get me a 2G for a DD.... Go with what you feel is good for you... Banging gears is fun but it does get old...

i know this is off topic but towards the auot to manual? but how is the launch in an auto you realy cant do it. or can you??
