my driver side cv shafts boot is killed, and im a clicking machine. my question is if the passenger side cv shaft is the same? my friends awd is being parted out, and his driverside castle nut wouldnt budge, even torched it, still nothing. his passenger side shaft came off easy, and is readily available to me, but i wanted to know if it was would work on the driver side? im at work, hes at work, and the idea just came up. thanks

Hey man I have a 96 Eclipse GST and I am CURRENTLY in the process of replacing both left and right side drive shafts........I ahve had a hell of a time with the parts stores around were i live ordering me the right freakin part, has been a nightmare, but listen to me carefully.

I have the drivers side replaced and reinstalled currently, just waited for the passenger side to come in on thurs.

I personally think that the hardest part was popping off the balljoints, but every car has its own bitchs.

As far as the castlenut is concerned.......try heating then using a impact to torque it off, also get some good penetrant to spray on it and let it sit, do not worry about messing any of the threads up or anything because that will all be replaced.

DO NOT TAKE THOSE SHAFTS OFF HIS CAR AND PUT ON YOURS UNLESS THEY ARE PRETTY DAMN NEW, ALWAYS BUY RECONDITIONED OR IF YOU CAN AFFORS IT NEW.

When dealing with anything drivetrain related, never go cheap.

peace, tyler

no they are not the same. i think the driver side is longer and it has a loop around the shaft thats bolted to the block. i think you just get a new one with the new axle. i couldnt get the nut off either, tried heating it,2 half inch breaker bars broke. then got a 3/4 inch one but couldnt find a socket to fit so we used an adapter and broke that. so my dad just broke the nut in half with a chisel and it came off fine.
