It seems to me my tranny is warm mannerd. In the mornings or at night when it is chilly outside and i take off out of my driveway, second gear and third gear always like to give me a little tiny grind-hangup type of thing, like it hesitates to go in. This will happen to only 2nd and 3rd, but third isnt as bad. I was wondering if this is a common thing, or is it my syncros, etc.

I also beleive i am in need of shifter bushings because while it is in gear, I can move the shifter around quite a bit, about the radius of a half dollar.

Thanks a lot. :D

When my car is cold, it tends to do a hang up type of deal as well from 1st to 2nd.
I just shift a lot slower, plus I'm usually not going very fast, and shifting at like 3k cuz motor is not at operating temp yet.
Maybe put some BG Syncro Shift in there and see how it works....

This happens while im shifting slow at low rpms, note i said i was pulling out if my driveway. Ill try the fluid, see if it helps.

Yup, that's exactly when it happens to me too.
I haven't changed my fluid yet, I'm waiting til I do my clutch probably during X-mas break....
XACT Flywheel
ACT 2100
BG Synchro Shift...

So, you're not the only one....

I had the same thing, believe it or not, I put in some Redline MT fluid, and now it works just fine. Still not perfect in the morning, but no grinding or hangups. I'm sure this is probably just a bandaid fix for a bigger problem though.

I have that happen to me but I already have redline in it. It is just the worn syncros but very normal for our cars. My tranny is on its last leg and will need replaced soon.

How much are new syncros, because my tranny is the same but much worse.
i start the car
i put it in reverse
i put it in 1st gear ( sometimes it doesnt even want to go into 1st)
i let up on the clutch and give a bit of gas
the gear pops out and now im trying to put it back in and it grinds.
now everyone is looking at me.

very embarassing!

and in 2nd gear i have to yank really hard to get it into 2nd, i called a few places and they gave me an estimate of about 800bucks for new syncros, where can i buy them and how easy are they to install?

please you gotta help me LOL, yea and it does this every single time!!!!! i dont trust it!

Well mine just got substantially (sp?) worse over night. Now until the car is fully warm my first gear hangs up going in, second grinds and hangs up and third hangs up a little harder. Im guessing it is the syncros... how hard is it to install by myself? How much do they cost, and what brand?

my car does the same thing into 2nd when its cold. give it 5 minutes and its fine.I've heared though that if it only does it when its cold its not a synch. :dsm: synchs are hard to change. I wouldn't recomend you do them yourself unless you know alot about transmissions.

I also think I have Syncro problems, It grinds kind of bad when I put it into 3rd gear. All of my other gears feel just fine when i shift into them. Is there a cheaper alternative to getting my Transmission rebuilt for just one messed up syncro? I think I can get my tranny rebuilt for around 500 bucks, is that a good price? (I'd have to double check on that)

To replace sycros you need to tear the entire tranny down, so replacing one or all syncros isnt the cost its the work involed in tearing down the tranny.
Also, this isn't a do it yourself type thing for 99.99% of people. I would consider myself a very skilled mechanic (I also work at a dealership) and I would never attempt this.

I'd try the Symborski Shift Linkage Improvment kit, and I'd also get those
Brass bushings that go in the cable end links that sit on top of the tranny.
Just a thought......
Oh yeah, change your fluid too.....

I'm assuming you mean the Shifter Cable Bushings.
