Hi, I'm buying a 1990 Talon TSi with only 70k miles on it (for only $200  ) but whenever I try to shift it into second or third, it grinds a little bit, but then goes in eventually.

Is this the synchros or do I need a whole new transmission?

How much do you think it'd cost to fix if it's just the synchros?

Sorry for being such a newb, but I wanted an answer from people that know DSMs and this seems to be the place to go.

Thanks a whole bunch.

or you can go the easier route and change the tranny fluid, get yurself some GM,pennzoil or quaker state syncromesh fluid and reamember it MUST say syncromesh, don't settle for any other fluid,i bet you'll feel a big change in shifting after 3 or so days.Peace!

I would definitely try some BG Syncro Shift II before a rebuild, it's expensive, but it made my tranny shift like new... I believe you need about 2 1/2 (3) quarts at $12.00 a quart. I would not use it again in the transfer case however!
