Well it turns out that my transmission casing is cracked. Sorry no pics but its nasty. Spilling oil everywere. My question is would you recomomend me someone thats thats not familiar with a tranny removal and install go ahead and do it. I have pulled out motors but never a fwd car. The reason why i ask is 2200 is a lot of cash to whip out. Thanks for any imput or advice you can provide.

No, I don't recomend it. I had a guy that new nothing regarding DSM's fix my car, suffice it to say that I had to pay twice to get my car running right; once for the wrong repairs and a second payment to repair everything the first guy did wrong.

Take your car to a knowledgable shop and save yourself some heartache. :thumb:

I disagree. If you trust yourself pulling engines, the tranny should be no problem for you. Assuming all you are doing is changing the bell housing, you will just have to take the tranny down, switch out the bell housing, and put the tranny back in (Hardest part.) It really isn't a hard job.

Check out the VFaq, and you will see it isn't that tough. It will save you a lot of cash.

Which part of the case is cracked? If its the outer case then you can just go buy a new one and reaplae it while the tranny is still in the car and its pretty easy to do just a few bolt then pull it off.

Do yourself a favor Marquez and checkout the FAQ on the 2G tranny rebuild and clutch change. You will see what is involved in getting tranny out and apart. You should be able to pull the tranny out just fine. If the bell housing is cracked, the whole tranny has to come apart. Take your time and note how you get it apart. I've torn my tranny down several times and I've theorized that I could do it in car but never tried it since I know it would take more hands to do it that you have room for under the car. When you try getting the gear clusters and shifter rails back into place, you'll see what I mean. I don't think you can get the front diff out either while its in the car either. Its hard enough pulling it out while its out of the car on a bench. The first time you pull the tranny may take a couple hours but its not difficult. Getting it back in requires some skill of a lot of muscle. It usually takes me ten minutes more to get it in, by myself I might add, as apposed to pulling it. This is on an AWD too.
