play inside tranny when turning wheels?

How much play should there be when turning one wheel befor other starts turning?it takes about an inch befor other turns and theres a lil clicking sound when they finaly meet.Thanks in advance

i would like to know also . mine does the same but i also lost 2-3 gear synchros .also it wont down shift into second. the only way to go into second is to go back into 1st.
