Well, the other night my brother was messing around with his Laser and was showing one of his friends how to "power shift". We where sitting in a parking lot when my brother had this bright idea to shift, without using the clutch. Mistake number one. The first time he tried to do it he was in fourth going to third (down shifting). I was crammed in the rear seat, when I heard a horrible grinding/chirping/screaming noise coming from his tranny. He made it out of forth fine, but ground rock trying to make it to third. The first time he tried doing this, he succeeded. Being pumped up, and partially aroused, by shifting without the clutch, he decided to try and accomplish this amazing feet again. Mistake number two. He popped it out of forth, but when it came out there was no linkage to go to 3rd. My brother though out loud, maybe it will work if I try to put it in second. I'm just going to go ahead and say that didn't work either. We coasted for probably 150 feet when my brother parked in four spaces, and decided to turn off his vehicle. Strike three your OUT! We all got out of the "Laser", and tried to diagnosis the problem. First we though he had busted the linkage. Nope linkage worked fine. Then we tried to push it while someone pushed down the clutch pedal, and it would not budge. We then tried to put it in other gears, to see if the transmition was busted. Well, the only gear it actually went into was fifth. That was a problem. We could not tow this bi*** ourselves, and it was 11:30 at night. As you can see in the photos below, the next day we had to call a towing company, and have them drag it up a flat bead. We then got it back to out house where I could look at it some more. Upon further fiddling with this suborn beast, I found out that he had broken his 3-4 shift fork and was stuck in the 1st and 2nd gears. Pretty lame idea, but it makes for a funny story I think.
And oh yeah, for all of those of you who don't know what power shifting is. Let me tell you that you should always use your clutch. Its there for a reason!
