Edmonton,
hey well i dont know what to do anymore. my car has been in the transmission shop three ####in times allready! first time, it was just supposed to go in for a nice second gear re-build and whatever else needed to be done, second gear synchros and some other shit were replaced. after it came out and was put back in the car, second gear still grinds! went back second time, replaced some more shit like sleeves or something... second gear still grinds. third time it goes in, and they say my master and slave cylinders need to be changed, and that the tranny was ripped completely apart, and that nothing is wrong AT ALL! and that after this time there is absoultely no reason for the transmission to grind. sure enough i take it for a little rip and the stupid thing grinds. but the car only grinds when shifting really fast from first to second, or third to second. if i give it a sec then it wont grind. i also have a bmtranny lsd installed, dont know if this makes a difference or not with the problem i am having. but what i dont get is, if everything to do with my second gear was changed, and i also but in a act 2100 clucth, then what the hell is the problem? is it 100% tranny? could it be something else at all what so ever, cause i have dumped so much money in this tranny shit, i think im just gonna sell it if i cant fix it. anyways, if anyone takes the time to read this, please respond. thanks.

Adjust your clutch. If that is not helping than, it might just be characteristic of your car. Some cars are just like that, for instance my moms s200 has problems going from 1 to 2 when i speed shift, but then again those transmissions are known to have a bad 1-2 synchro.

If you get really pissed off, you might try contacting venus or one of thee other large importers, I bet you could pick up a jdm trans for dirt cheap.

but ive spent all this damn money on this dumb thing, and its still messed. i used to be able to speed shift. but with a new synchros shouldnt the stupid thing work perfect.

Well if they are brand new they need time to break in. After a few months of driving on it, and I mean like three or four, the synchros smooth out alot, they have less resistance and that should be able to keep up with the rate you are tring to shift at. Figure out how fast you can shift at WITHOUT grinding, and just work with that for now.

If it is only that you have new synchros, in 6 months they will be all worn down and shifting like they used to.

i tried using different kinds of oil, and it did nothing for me...even the synchromesh. i thought that it doenst take any time for the synchros to break in. i was told that once put in, then there is no break in time, unlike a clutch. i just dont get why the only grind duting really fast shifts at high rpm. i cant stand it.

in a few months it will be fine.

It is not a break in period, but it is stiff. Soon it will seet it's new home and move alot easier I promise

Just try not to break any thing trying to force it in the mean time

Well a stock rebuild is not for high rpm speed shifting. If you want to shift like that, get a tre or shep tranny with double syncros 1-2. Stock dsm trannys dont like fast shifting at high rpm.

my stock tranny shifted at high rpm fine for 2 years. and who knows how it was shifted before me, so if i can shift hard from factory on a 14 year old car, then whats the problem on a brand new part.
14.5 drift- do you really think that it will be better? it grinds pretty hard and wont even let me in gear. IT SUCKS!!! :thumbdown

I can only say from recent experience.

When my mom picked up her s2000 last year, the car was used, had 9k on the register, lady owned and adult driven.

When i got behind the wheel and tried to speed shift first through second at high rpm's it would either grind, or just not go in gear at all. If I was to force it in it would grind. So I just learned to shift with in the boundries the transmission would let me

That was then. Now a few thousand miles later (the car has 14k on it (she barely drives the thing)) I can rip through 1-2 as fast as i want, no slips, no grinds, no nothin. I can ussually count on a nice chirp in second.

So from that experience, i would say it will take time but if you just keep workin on it, always tuggin on your shifter, and workin that synchro in (dont break it though) it will loosen up and make that shift easier in time.

can anyone give me any ideas before i go back to the tranny shop this week. like it seems to be getting a tiny bit better, but i think its in my head. the tranny shop... or so called tranny shop, tells me to change my fluid and add an additive from the dealership. but the grinding is TERRIBLE!!! i dont think fluid will help it. i have to baby the thing to get it in gear, its sooo bad.
