I'm new to the AWD's, and I've readthat there are some transfer-case's that are better than others. Whats all the 4 bolt 6 bolt stuff everyone talks about?? Am i slow, or just miss-informed. Mine bolts to the trannie with 5 bolts. Someone please help!!!

Thanx, Steve.

I'm not sure what differences there are between transfer cases from one year to another, other than making sure your transfer case has had the yoke seal recall done. The 3 bolt vs. 4 bolt refers to the rear differential and the number of bolts in the axle hub cup. The 4 bolt setup has bigger diameter axles and is stronger. The 6 bolt vs. 7 bolt discussion refers to engine blocks and is a reference to the number of bolts in the flywheel if I remember correctly. It's a way of identifing the early 1G engines from the later 1G and 2G engines.

You can find more information if your interested by using the search button.

4 bolt refers to the number of bolts holding your rear axle (AWD) to the companion flange thats mated to your wheel hub. (on all late '92+ model AWDs)

6 bolt refers to the number of bolts holding your flywheel to the crank (I believe on all '90-'94 and some early '95 models)

All the transfer cases are the same performance wise. There are the 22 spline ones and the 23 spline ones. The 23 spline ones came in the 91'+ DSM AWDs.

i believe the early early 91 xfer case is a 22 spline, not sure tho, otherwise, count the splines and if there is 23, then yes.
