I have the chance to buy a 91 linkage. My 90 has too much play and I just dont like the design as much as the 91-94 flat bar type. I know the same pivot point is about the same. Will there be any ill affects? If so can I correct it...or is it not worth it?

i fell weird anwering without ALL the info, but YES it can be done... u will have to make a few changes I just cannot remember exactly what they are. I did this a LONG time ago on a friends 90'

I am going to be putting a 92 GVR4 tranny and transfer case in my 1990 GSX Eclipse and i am wondering where I can line up the newer shifter stuff so I can do the swap also. Hopefully someone can answer that question also!

I already read that post. My problem is, is that my assembly is really loose, even after changing hardware for the slide/pivot for the lever. If I tighten it....it doesn't have as much play but makes it a bit more difficult to shift. Also, if I pull up on the knob/lever, the whole assembly moves up and down like an inch or so. I wouldn't mind this soo much if it wasn't difficult to go into third from second. Not because of my tranny/synchros, but because there is soo much play that it wants to go into first. So what I have to do is go from 2nd to neutral and then find third, occasionally I can smoothly shift from 2nd to third, but definitely not when I am trying to race it. That is my main worry. If I am modding this and can't even shift into gears correctly...whats the point? Therefor, upon reading that post, would it be worth it to get the brackets and cables and shifter from a 91 or just try to fix my 90? Once I get a better shift knob, that will make it throw a lot shorter. My worry wasn't that, but just the mentioned above.

Sorry if this is long and confusing and if I repeated myself.

becaue I dont think there is really anything wrong with mine...that I know of. switching to the same thing would only lead to....the same thing.

You can't just change the shifter levers. They have different diameter pivots. Thus, why you have a good amount of slop up/down. You need to change the entire shifter assembly. Along with the tranny bracket. The cables, ideally, should be changed, but I think you can reuse them.

91 Tranny in a 90, you need the shifter, cables, and tranny bracket.

90 Tranny in a 91, you need nothing really. Having the 91 shifter, cables and tranny bracket will make it feel like a short shifter.
