Anyone used a rebuilt tranny? How did it work?

Calgary,
I have shifting problems mainly with second gear. Tryed different fluids and such, but I think the synchros have just given up. Has anyone done a rebuild or had one done for them? What did you replace? How did it help? Is it notchy still? Is it smooth?

I'm probably going to do it myself if I can get away with it. What does double synchros mean? Obviously 2 synchros but how do I do it, where do I get the parts.

PS. I'm not sending the bloody thing to TRE or someone to get it done. Thanks for any help.

Im bout to drop in a new trans Very soon, If ur not going to bring the trans to TRE then ur pritty much screwed on getting a double Synchro done, if you bring it to a shop, there going to Rape you. If you dont wana send it to TRE, send it to john SHEP!

If you know how to rebuild a trans, And im sure you dont ( considering ur question ) only place to get it is thru TRE I think, Mitsu doenst sell double Sychros.

But I know Reasembling a trans Requires a PRESS.

double synchro second is a dealer part. The vfaq will tell you how to rebuild a trans.

I had Shep rebuild my tranny. I got everything on his site for the basic $895 rebuild including double synchro 2nd. I also got a new 3rd, 3-4 hub kit, torrington bearing upgrade, and had the hairline cracks on the bellhousing welded. It came to about $1200 and it was well worth it.

I also replaced everything tranny related while it was off...
-Taboo unbreakable clutch fork
-pivot ball
-Plastic sleeved throwout bearing (don't use a metal one, the old ACT supplied one chewed up the input shaft)
-ACT 2600
-Slave cylinder
-SS braided clutch line
-symborski shift kit

It's something that had to be done. My car had been grinding 2nd for half a year and it was very painful to drive it. Then one day, my ACT 2600 snapped my OEM clutch fork in half and bent the slave cylinder rod. Since I had to pull the tranny anyway to replace the fork, I opted for a Shepherd rebuild and it's the best money I've spent on my POS car. It shifts so smoothly it is amazing.
