It most likely is an adjustment problem in your tranny...

Oftentimes, if the tranny is not quite in adjustment...it can pop out of a gear...

Check over DSM.org (if you haven't already)...read through the vfaq section...and you'll likely find an answe on the problem and how to fix it...

I wouldn't say clutch in any way...if it were SLIPPING in a gear..then sure.>> but he's saying it pops out(off_) of gear...

You shouldn't drive with your hand on the shifter. From what I've read it wears the shift forks, so you're putting pressure on the shifter and "power shifting" it out of gear. Of course I could be wrong.
