does anyone have any idea how much it would cost in a shop for a rebuild on an automatic for my 1.8

It may depend on what exactly they find wrong with it once they open it up.

well if u call shops they will tell u over the phone anywhere between 900 to 1200 without looking at it. i went through this once. if nothing is broke or damaged id say around 700-900 i priced the rebuild kits for the n/t auto trannys the kit is like 200, the friction disks dont come with the kit they run anywhere between 6-9 bucks each and there is 9 of em in the tranny then u u need the band which dont come with the kit it around 25 . rebuilding an auto tranny isnt as hard as u may think, as long as nothing is broke or damaged. if its just from normal wear most likly all u need to replace is the friction disks and gaskets. tAke your pan off, if u see alot of metal shavings more than likly somthing broke or worn way beyond use and will cost more to fix if they gotta replace broken worn parts.
