Hi my freind lucas has a prob with his tranny. After he got a new clutch put in he noticed that it was pretty hard to shift into 4th and reverse. A few weeks later he washed it and noticed that there was some fluid leaking. He and I thought it was oil but, we checked that and it seemd to be fine. We checked the fluid that had leaked on the ground and it didn't look like oil at all so we figured it might be some kind of fluid from the transmission. As he kept on driving it we noticed that his car was making a weird sound. It was'nt really a grinding sound it seemed more like a whine. Like something wasn't getting any lubrication. Later on as he was driving and shifted into 3rd it would just pop out. So he parked the car and he's now using his moms truck. Well the leaking stoped but, when he started the car and pushed the clutch in the pedal gets stuck to the floor and he can't even put it in first. We went looking around for fluids to put in but, we don't know what kind to use. I have read some of the other topics about trannys and they say to use the GM syncromesh. We went to the mitsubishi dealer and asked him for that but, he said that we didn't need it and recomend 75W-90 gear oil so we went out and bought that but, its a GL-5 spec oil and I just read something that said you shouldn't use that cause it will corrode the syncros so Im not to sure if we should put that in anymore. We asked around and got different answers from pep boys and checkers and they say its either the linkage, master and slave cylinder or the syncros but, the guy at pep boys says its wierd that its hard to shift into 4th and reverse instead of 1st,2nd or 3rd. So if anyone can give us any help it would be greatly appreciated also if you know of any websites that tell you how to put the fluid in would be great. Thanks a lot for your help. He also has a loose engine mount...I don't know if this would affect the drivetrain (im pretty sure it would) but, I figured you guys should know.

No we didn't put it in because I read on some link that I got from this fourm that GL-5 spec oil will corrode the syncros or something. It said you need GL-4 spec....GL-5 spec will only work on the GSX. I'll try and find the link that said what oil to use.

Well then on the front of your trannie there is a bolt thats either a 17mm or 19mm just take it out and use a flixible steel funnel and fill it till it runs out. I dont remember the capacity though byut a manual will tell you. But you will want to drain the old fluid out first. there is a drain plug on the bottom you cant miss it!

Capacity is 2.1Q if FWD or 2.3Q if AWD. You say the clutch stays on the floor? sounds like you need to check the slave cylinder and bleed the system. Check and see if the master cylinder is full, it uses brake fluid and you bleed it just like brakes.
