i was told that the six puck clutches kill our trannys, even the ones with the spring hub, is this true?

ehhhh, I dunno. It might Distroy an old trans, but a rebuilt trans would hold up, Depends, if you dump it, with slack in the Drive Tran, stuff will break. Itle probly break the center Diff First. Then maybe the Rear End if ur AWD. maybe an Axle.

You'll be told LOTS of things in the DSM world. But think: would grandma have a six-puck put in _her_ DSM? Conversely, does someone paying for and installing a six-puck doing it because they drive their car like granny?

It's like the "Why are DSMs so unreliable?" question being asked by the same person who asks "What's the best launch RPM for AWD?"

Puck-clutchers tend to be doing things that need pucks. DSMs are _still_ just quick, street, passenger cars. Making them racers will hurt.

A pucked friction disk will put more localized heat and pressure into the flywheel and pressure plate, but that isn't affecting the transmission. Banging gears affects the trans.

well i do not believe this is such a vague question like you are saying. i realize if u abuse your car by banging gears all hard all the time its gonna tear up the tranny. All i want to know is if i put it on is it going to mess up my trans, like if i dump it from 3k for a race once in a while will it bust really soon? Because the things ive heard makes it seem like my trannys gonna be gone in a few months after installing it

I'll try again.

A transmission doesn't know and doesn't care what kind of clutch is between it and the crank. The specific clutch has no effect on the transmission. Having a solid-disk friction disk, without shock springs _will_ transmit more hammering to the gearsets and the transmission bearings, as well as the crankshaft bearings, which will be more stress on those components.

Dumping from 3k WILL tear up your driveline, including the transmission. As well as the CV joints, transfer case, viscous couplers and all the fasteners and what the fasteners are fastening. But the difference between a pucked clutch and a street disk is primarily how much more torque a puck can transfer over a full-face disk.

Just by itself, a pucked clutch has no effect on a transmission. They're just less convenient to drive on the street because engagement is much more sudden.

Abuse your tranny and even stock clutch disc/pressure plate will kill it…

The reason why “pucked” discs have such bad reputation is two fold:

1. Puck material grabs quicker and stronger, not allowing as much slip.
2. Until recently, “pucked” disc also meant a solid hub…

Combine this with the fact that only the most extreme racers used such clutch and you are asking for trouble! I believe that today’s pucked clutch discs with springs are much better.

But I have haven’t reached limits my good old ACT Street Disc, so why mess with success and induce any more drivetrain stress than is necessary?

mugsy-- I was just looking at your mods and unless you haven't updated it for a while there is no reason to be putting a puck disc in a stock 1g with just a 16g. an ACT street disc would be way better set up and would hold that perefectly fine an in the fwd you would be able to slip it way better.

well i was gonna get a full face but the guy i got it through could only get me that, he said it was the softer material with the spring hub, and the only reason why i went with it is because he got it for me at wholesale price
