So yesterday afternoon, I leave cafe Ophelia and hit 280 S from Deanza heading back to work....behind me I notice a new black 350z. My passenger and I wonder if he'll try to mess with me.
We get onto the 280 on ramp and sure enough the 350z moves to the car pool merge lane and guns it past me.
I notice his dual aftermarket mufflers, smile, and gun it in 3rd after him. 21 psi finally hits and my turbo comes to a life (as lively as pump gas can provide anyway).
To my surprise, 3rd gear easily pulls up on him. I get next to him, put it in 4th and I easily pull on him by a few cars. I love the new (and old) Z, but I never expected the new Z to be so slow, especially against my big fat awd pig on the highway!
My DSMlink flashes my check engine at me indicating that I've reached my preset knock threshold (ECU was pulling 3 degrees timing for knock in 4th).
I get off the gas at around 110mph and let him catch up...he passes me and eventually slows back down next to me. Still rolling at around 100mph, I look over at him and he drops at least a gear and guns it again. Being a bit lazy and curious, I leave the tranny in 5th and gun it (
). To more of my surprise, I actually hang with him in 5th!! Now I'm thinking
what the hell??
I notice that I missed my exit so I clutch in, throw a peace sign out my window, and watch the Z dissappear into the horizon. Now satisfied, I take the Lawrence expressway exit and head back to work.
Normally I don't appreciate my fat awd pig on the highway, but that run was definitely an eye opener. Thanks for reading
