So yesterday afternoon, I leave cafe Ophelia and hit 280 S from Deanza heading back to work....behind me I notice a new black 350z. My passenger and I wonder if he'll try to mess with me.

We get onto the 280 on ramp and sure enough the 350z moves to the car pool merge lane and guns it past me.

I notice his dual aftermarket mufflers, smile, and gun it in 3rd after him. 21 psi finally hits and my turbo comes to a life (as lively as pump gas can provide anyway).

To my surprise, 3rd gear easily pulls up on him. I get next to him, put it in 4th and I easily pull on him by a few cars. I love the new (and old) Z, but I never expected the new Z to be so slow, especially against my big fat awd pig on the highway!

My DSMlink flashes my check engine at me indicating that I've reached my preset knock threshold (ECU was pulling 3 degrees timing for knock in 4th).

I get off the gas at around 110mph and let him catch up...he passes me and eventually slows back down next to me. Still rolling at around 100mph, I look over at him and he drops at least a gear and guns it again. Being a bit lazy and curious, I leave the tranny in 5th and gun it (LOL). To more of my surprise, I actually hang with him in 5th!! Now I'm thinking OMG what the hell??

I notice that I missed my exit so I clutch in, throw a peace sign out my window, and watch the Z dissappear into the horizon. Now satisfied, I take the Lawrence expressway exit and head back to work.

Normally I don't appreciate my fat awd pig on the highway, but that run was definitely an eye opener. Thanks for reading :dsm:

hehe... you don't understand...
ever since i got the gsx, i have realized that awd and highway battles don't mix.

Before this 5th gear experiment :p I had NO faith in my gsx to pull on anything on the highway :(

shut up wit ur stories doo man.. ill smoke u.. its all about big16g tuned by JH on alex pepper logger and safc foo! hahah

jk

anyways.. nice story.. i cant belive u were surprised.. u just have no faith in ur setup.. i pulled on a 350z 16 psi from a roll with my pos untuned car. so it should be no surprise to me that u raped it with the green :p

I'll kill joo, Eugene.

hehe.

I know that with the fp green I should eat him on the street....
But like I was saying, awd and 5th gear on the highway... wtf...
:p

I just want to know how you got away with that on what _used_ to be about the most-heavily patrolled strip of concrete in the whole damned state.

Apparently The Collapse proceeds apace.

I do it every morning on my way to work. 280 is my launch pad, sir.

I don't know what *used* to be the case, but I do know that 280 is not my most feared highway to speed on. (That would be 87/85 with their undercover cops in camrys)

Regards.

I ran a new 350Z with my other car about a month back....it was off the line...i have a 300ZXTT with just an intake and ACT clutch... he hung with me till 2nd (bc i spin tire when they spool up) once i hit second(and after i stopped spinnin....just a lil) i ran him up to about 90 then shut it down, had him by about 5 cars...they arent as impressive as most think....there are many cars than can contend with or beat them(SRT-4, WRX,My Gsx(off the line) and even my 1990 TTZ:thumb: )

nice. :)

I'm passively searching for a 90+ 300zx tt to project. Any annoying ass problems with yours yet? hopefully not :p

I drive 280 everyday, and rarely do I see any CHPs in my 30 mile stretch.

Sup Ludachris.

Same here...although my commute's only about 9 minutes.

All I see are the silly impala/SUV/camaro cops in my area...but rarely on the highway. :D
