My friend has a GTI VR6 golf with he says just exhaust....we were just messin around i was in third and he slammes on it i downshift to secnd and start spoolin....he blows by me with ease.....some factors might ne that i have a 250 pound friend in the passenger seat with both of us with enough luggage for a weekend.....all i have is free mods and a k&n air filter.......is this right??? how fast are they really? i mean i can drive well and wasnt expexting that to happen?? need some feedback:mad:

Vw's V6 run good, they have good torque, and I believe that beeing a golf it is indeed lighter that your car, and if you said you have a heavy friend with you, it could be another factor, but don't forget that your car looses a bit of top end power beeing AWD, and he's FWD more Top end than you...

yea you are right....i needed to shed those 400lbs of cargo i had....he said his car weighs in at 2700lbs....mine without me is like 3108 i weigh 170 plus another 400...im way up there...next time...ima make sure its from a stop, and im gonna not be packed for a long trip either....grr

If I can remember right the older VR6 hp and torque are like 180 and 180 while the newer are more light 200 and 200. Plus I think the new GTI VR6 are 6 speed. Mostly stock vs mostly stock so it's gonna be close race.

yea he said his car has about 180 and 180.....so especially with the eight i ws carrien he def was able to beat me.....next paycheck im gettin a set of gauges and an ebc.....then we will see whats good.....by the way anybody know how much hp a bc adds when at 15 psi stock turbo???

those cars can be really hard to figure out, you might of bumped into a turbo charged one those ####s like do that shit if it was turbocharged then your chances keeping up with him would be really slim with even mild mods

a regular vr6 is no problem....I stomped one real good this summer..and I was still on boost problem and had a leak in the system as well....He had exhausts and filter on it I think ( the sound of it made me think so)

a good running VR6 with mild mods can hit 13's with a driver, very rare but it happens. on the highway they're pretty mean. I am coming from VW's to DSMs. My bro has/had a 98 gti VR w/a vortech V-1 blower @ 10psi makin 300whp. that was a highway monster, but is now building a turbo miata. but DSM's are more fun to drive. I had a 92 gti 16v as my first carwhere i rebuilt the motor and threw down 20more hp than before the rebuild. made me pretty happy, fun to drive, about as fast as a stock GSX on the freeway, and some VR6's too (stock). front wheel drive sucks, all motor sucks.

you can't hate VW because those mofos aren't as cocky as those hondas bitches. You can get in fight with them over anything.

well, in Maine a lot of them are actually quite cocky, not all though.
I whooped a vr6 GTI around here last year. He had a ton of mods, but no boost and his gf with him. I had my gf and 2 kids and all there stuff with intake, clutch, and frank jr. 17c. I even gave him a start off the line.but by the top of 2nd I was about 3 cars in front of him. He still pulled real well. LOL I had to stop at a red like after that and he drove by me and said, "that's fast!" as he went through the stop light because he was in awe and wasn't paying attention. In the place I was in he was one of the fastess imports bc every other kid has an unpainted body kit and/or intake and tin can muffler, not even a full exhaust. Kinda hicky place. There's probly 10x the domestics as imports there. :dsm:

Well we wil see how he stands up now that i have my Profec-b in...but i dont wanna turn the boost up because of my stock gauge....and i need the capilary tubing for my auto meter...im still spoolin up faster...i doubt hell wanna race though...hes kind of a wuss

VW guys are cocky, and think their cars are the biggest and baddest thing out there. I hate the dub scene. So far all the DSM people i have met or talked to have been really chill :) my bro sold his gti today so i will be pullin out a loan for the 1g finally. Gotta show up my area on what a real performance car is for the $$ you spend. Most importantly gotta show up this guy with his Boosted VR my bro's buildin for him:thumb: :thumb:

I raced a new GTI VR6 a few nights ago. He had an exhaust from what I could tell, I don't know what else. Anyways, I expected to blow him away so I didn't bother to downshift.. I just punched it in 3rd. He downshifted to 2nd and slowly started pulling and I was like WTF.. then my turbo hit 18 psi and I caught back up and pulled away. He lost, but they're quicker than I thought.

I have a friend with a vr6 with a chip and intake plus some other minor stuff. he's an awesome driver and still only runs low 15's. im going to race him in my stock vr-4 (soon to have a MBCU). im curious of the outcome. ha ha my 2L 4 popper gets the same torque his big ass 6cyl! thank god for the 4g63!!:dsm:

Coming from being an ex honda guy i can agree, ever been on a honda message board!?!? Those people are pricks, always arguing over how u drive wut you drive and even picking apart your vocab. Never rarely is there any inciteful information given; as far as I've seen.

And having a best friend who owns a GTI 1.8 T i can also say VDub guys can jump on your back about anything. Always saying VW's are better than another car. Constantly talking about kill stories, about cars my old civic could have womped.

I definately love the DSM car and crowd :thumb:
Mine is still in the process of being put 2gether and just cant wait to get it on the road :D

VR6 GTi's are all about the top end, AWD isn't gonna pull one on the highway.

When I was running 15.1's I smashed one bad (at least 2 cars) and I passed him in second...And I have major traction problems...

im a vw technician and i can honestly say that i am impressed with the golf. both engines - the vr6 and the 1.8t are quicker than you might expect. the only problem with these cars is that there aren't as many mods for them as the dsms and they are expensive as hell to fix. the check engine lights seem to come on about every couple thousand miles and when they come on they are usually because of something expensive like a coil pack for the new vr6 is about $600.

Even Unmodified The 2G eclipse is 210hp and the 1.8t is 150hp. 180hp in the GTI, and Bug Turbo S. So from jump VDubs gives up btw 40-60 ponies. And the VDubs arent exactly light. Now I've seen one with the "P" chip and FMIC, & 2 1/2 exaust and it hauled some ass...But your right they are really expensive to modify. Now the VR6 has some power from jump...Put a 2 1/2 exaust and CAI, Headers, and it is a fast car. But kiss you warranty good bye. But then again modifiers don't really care about warranties do we...Hell I only care about smog laws every other year!:D

90GSX182 don't worry about it...Modify your cars with a 2 1/2 exaust and off road pipe and try that again...The outcome will be different. If you motor is strong.:dsm:

I DESTROY GTI's at the line and on the freeway. Even a decently modded one. I eat golfs and Jetta's alike. None can stand up to the awsome power of the 19C :thumb:

I just threw a 2.5 inch o2 housing with an external dump tube on a few days ago, i made a Trans AM my bi*** from a roll =). It was funny too, he had his passenger window down too, and as soon as the WG opened and I started dumping, i looked over and the passenger was covering his ears!!! HAHAHHAHAHA

but back to the topic, VW are fairly well built, but arent the powerplants like dsm's are. I doubt they're stock internals will hold 350-400 horse b4 breaking =\ , ours can.

just get a BOV, shoot it off a few times at the line b4 u launch to intimidate him, and make him your personal b i t c h !

Bro, with all due respect Honda-Tech.com is one of the most informative message boards on the net. Many professional racers including Mike Laskey, Eric Aguilar, And Doc Madrid are online there and are willing to give even the rookies all the help they need. Now, there are occasional pricks that think Hondas rule the world:thumbdown ...But I've never seen Bret Rau, David Bauscher or John Sheppard answering questions for the masses. And shady...Who on this thread has not been ripped off on DSMtrader.com. Truth is we don't take care of our own. If the people who have the knowledge and experience would help those with less we would all be better off. I love my DSM :dsm:

Most Hondas are fast economy cars, DSM's are Sports Cars and in a different class all together... Plain and Simple:dsm: :talon: :laser: Simply the best

I'm not saying it didnt help me at the time, and it wasn't filled with massive information. It was...

But the trash talking I read and saw on a lot of the threads was just irrelevant b/s.

The people w/ nothing better to do than comment on what your doing wrong stuck out more to me than the people w/ the "positive" posts.

yeah i just rolled into a local gas station last weekend and immediately 2 kids come up and ask me to race them. they were in a vr6 gti - im not sure what year

I was like yeah sure why not. they asked to see under my hood so i popped it. they stared for a long time at the turbo and stuff trying to decide whether or not i was fast i guess LOL. so eventually we head out and race. the weird thing was I was expecting to walk ALL OVER this thing. the weird thing was i only pulled a car in second gear - however by third i was putting many cars on him. Basically i still beat him pretty bad it just impressed me more than I though it would. His mods were intake, exhaust, and a chip.

when we got back to the gas station he was like dang! what makes that thing so fast?!? I was like: the turbo. he's like I know but still?? I was like the turbo...

they just shook their heads and chatted for awhile. funny guys just needed introduced to forced induction i guess

btw relative mods include 16g @ 19psi
