i had a wreck back last year and i am about to come into a large some of money... and plan on building my car.. i plan on talking to a guy around here that is pretty famous for building dsm's (victor brant) and im wanting to get about 600 hp... ive seen a couple that have around this hp range.. but my quetion is... i have a spyder and will there be restrictions for me like how far can i go before i cant go any further.. is there restrictions on convertables?

well what could happen you car will split in half, no LOL joking, I don't know. But if you are going for 600hp I would recomend having a convertaible. First unstable, second unsafe, third heavy

ya but thats what i have and i love it.. but do you know if tehre are any restrictions when it comes to like actual racing past so many hp.. i know after so many hp you have to have a whellie bar and roll cage.. but can you have a soft top and still be ok
?
thanks for the input

also when i build the car im gonna take all the extra stuff out.. like the top motor and crap

most tracks make you have a rollcage if youre in the 13s. as for wheelie bars....you wont need them. you're fwd and you cant pull a wheelie, only rwd can pull a wheelie.

i know im fwd.... couple of my friends here tho wasnt aloud to run without wheelies they were fwd

that's pretty dumb! But whatever, about the rollcage I don't know if you can do it with the spider.

Point to the rear wheels and ask, "What the FU(K do you think THOSE are?"

Still, not as good as snow chains on the wrong end.

the wheelie bars on a FWD are actually quite helpful, why do you think every fast FWD dragcar has them? its for weight transfer, when you launch the read end wants to squat, that reduces traction to the front tires by taking weight off of them. the wheelie bars stop the rear end from going to too far,and keeps weight on the frontend.
and yes,of course you can put a rollcage in a spyder, and with the plans you're talking about,i'd definately suggest just that.. although i'd also suggest you buy a 1g AWD and dump all your money into that and keep the spyder for a daily driver.

OK, everything stuffy said is wrong. NHRA tracks require a 5 point roll bar if you go faster than 11.99. For convertables it is 13.99. A full rollcage is required for 9.99 and faster for both convertables and hard tops. A rollcage in a convertable means you wont really be driving with the top down much.

As for the wheelie bars, allwheelTSI answered that one in the above post. Seriously, some people should think hard before hitting the "Reply" button. Mis-information is the disease of the internet spreading like a plague.

and as for being wrong about the informtion, my bad. Im sorry if you have a stick up your a** but thats no way to treat a person. I dont know whats your problem but dont take it out on me. I dont even know you and you dont know me. So back off and calm down. youre just making yourself look like a jerk.

I can't remember where I saw it but there was a wheelie bar on a FWD drag car that would lower with a switch so the driver could get better traction off the line and raise it after the run, again I'm not positive on the details. Also, there is a FWD drag eclipse with a wheelie bar, its either red or orange I forget.

wheelie bars can be helpful on fwd's. something tells me that len monserrat wasn't doing it just to look cool.

stuffy: I wasnt trying to be an ass it just ended up that way. ;) Too many people post replys without checking to make sure the information is accurate, and frankly its annoying. While you are technically correct about a FWD not pulling a wheelie, your reply implied that a wheelie bar will not help a FWD car. That is the point that needed to be corrected, and was.

Powells,

The car you refer to was Chris Rado's old Acura integra drag car with hydraulic/pneumatic wheelie bars. Those were banned by NIRA/NHRA as soon as he brought them to a national event.

And as far as Len Monserrat's old racecar, it was an AWD... It was the only AWD to ever implement a wheelie bar... And today, they are also called "traction bars"... :thumb:
