Went to Fayetville dragway last night for their all night test and tune. I have a 1997 FWD eclipse w/ stock side mount, 450cc injectors, stock clutch that is very much dead. Check my profile for other mod info.
I get lined up with a brand new Evolution 8 lancer. They look mean as hell when your lined up beside one. Very intimidating
. Haha
So i do my burn out and the evo just rolls up to the line and stages.
It was 4th of july at the track and kids were shooting fireworks everywhere. And i look over at the evo and through the smoke from my tires I see the reflection of a firework exploding on the Evo's windows. haha It was a classic moment, like something from a movie.
We are both staged now. And the light goes green. I slip my dieing clutch and pull a little. Then I see the evo pulling hard as shit and comes flying out of the hole.
I switch into 2nd gear and hit the 2nd stage on my boost controller (to 16psi).
As soon as i got into 2nd i started pulling back on the lancer. Everything seemed like it was going in slow motion. I wasnt even watching my shift points or anything, I just kept my eye on the evo. By 3/4 of the track we were neck and neck. Then I finally pass him.
I look back at him and he gives me a thumbs up and a big smile.
I knew I had a good run but i wasnt sure if i pulled a 13 or not. I was hoping to run a 13 all night. I knew i had the mph for it but could never pull a decent launch because of my clutch.
I was happy enough with the race, even if I would have run a shitty time, it was still the best run I have ever had, especially with a AWD car.
Then my cell phone rings and the girl i was with is calling me screaming "
SAM you just ran a 13!!! And you beat a $30,000 car!!!"
This was all on the FP Big28 turbo at 16psi.
60' - 2.397
1/8 - 9.211 @ 83.1mph
1/4 - 13.98 @ 104.4mph
The car was spinning like crazy but i am still proud of my time.
I can not wait to get some DRs or Slicks. Run 22psi and get a new clutch.
I think with good traction I can pull off a low 13 at 16psi. Then once i run 22psi with bigger injectors I should be able to pull 12s.
