Alright, I got the big 16g installed this past week and we took it the track. The mods are in the profile, and I set the controller at 16 psi and my best time was a 14.9 @ 100. This is with a 2.5 60 foot and not a whole lot of traction. My questions are, what are a good set of street tires, but not slicks, to run at the track?

I am currently running 205 kumho escta supras which arent holding up well. I know I can do better with the 60 foots because I pulled 2.2 and 2.3's before on the t-25., but I never really had traction problems in 2nd gear then.

Another question is, when at the end of 1/4 mile, I am closing in on the end of third gear and everytime I shift into 4th, my mph and times are worse. Should i start shifting earlier like at 6500 instead of taking it to somewhere close to 7000?

Also I have adjustable shocks, should I set them to the hardest setting or a softer setting?

Any info would be great. Damn FWD.

up the tire size...ecstas are pretty decent but 205 is great for a honda...bad for a car with some tourque. Like I said get some 225 which I know will fit on the swirlys or the 5 spokes...and I knwo I shouldnt be saying this, but practice launching....I did your times stock with shitty street tires. Your car is much faster and I know when you get your lauch down it will be a very low 14 sec car if not faster good luck...it was all with the best intentions(so dont flame)

yeah, i am def going to upthe new tires to 225s, just not sure what brand and type to get. Launching is defininitly a little different on the 16g then the t25. I guess I do need to practice that a little bit. I know the car is making more power cause on the butt dyno it feels so much better and the mph went up 5 mph on 1psi over the t25 and this was on a very hot day in north carolina.

If you're spinning the tires in second gear at only 16 psi of boost, that's a sign your tires aren't that good. I had Bridgestone Potenza RE730 and I didn't spin in second until 20 psi, which was good for a 13.6 at 106 MPH.

With a Big 16G I got best results from shifting at 6700 rpm.

Oh dude(boostineklipz), u r way faster than u think. that trap speed alone is good for low 14's. i ran 14.4@97mph at my current mod, boost set to 15psi. by looking at ur mods, i would say low-mid 13's is attainable. :thumb:

Get a big beefy side wall tire.
215/55/16 would be good.
The more side wall the better....
Then run about 21psi in your tires at the track for the better contact patch.
This should drop your 60 foot times.
Also what boost controller are you running?
It would be best to get a dual stage. Run lowest boost possible in 1st gear then hike it up to whatever boost you want in 2nd. That should help traction alot.
I dropped .7 seconds off my 1/4 time switching to a dual stage boost controller.

Nitto Drag Radials. at least 225/50/16. Air pressure in front to 20 psi, rears, as high as the tire can handle. set rear shocks to brick hard setting. take everything out of the rear area, spare, jack, bbq grill etc...
maybe even the rear seat.
Dejontools.com has some kind of pneomatic air jacking system for the rear of the car also. Eventually a LSD and slicks will be needed if you keep increasing power.
regards

Yes, switching at 6500-7000 is far better than taking it to the edge of 7500. The bigger turbo will make more power at higher rpms then the t25. I would go to a wider contact patch and about 20 psi on a stickier tire. For a better traction (<-- I know sounds funny for fwd) lighter wheels, wider tires, sticky tires is the ideal setup.

Happy Draggin

DO NOT get the falken azenis tires. I had these on my car, they are NOT good for drag racing!!! If you autoX then they are the shit. But the sidewall is absolutely too stiff to drag race with.

I might look into those tires and thanks for the advice. I do believe these tires are not that great.

Yeah, Iam definitly going to go with some 225s. I am running a Joe P MBC at the moment but I am going to look into a dual stage one as you suggestted? Any reccomendations?

stock jack and everything is out. I keep hearing mixed reviews about the nitto drag radials. Maybe a LSD in the future but I would like to keep the car away from slicks and leave it in street form.

checking that out right now

So I am getting the idea for FWD is sticky tires, lightweight wheels (future mod), shifting around 6700, and runnning 20psi on sticky tire. Thanks for the input.

try bfg dr's or falken azeni's

I thought the azeni's were good for autocrossing?

ditto

I think the khumo's suck. I get no traction whatsoever, and my tires are only 5-6 months old. When I got my car stock, it would spin the tires in first when full boost hit. Unfortunately that was not do to the excess power in the ol' gst but rather the sucky kumhoes. I would say go w/ either bridgestone, or dunlops.

I had the same tires u got, same size, and was cutting low 2.1 60ft times on blown shocks/struts. Instead of running out and buying new tires, u should learn how to drive with what u got, then when u get better/wider rubber, u'll have more practice behind ya. But if ur gonna get tires, get something with a lower thread wear rating (Kumho's 712's are like 320). Also look into upgraded shocks if u havent done so already.

I used to cut 2.2s with the t-25. I know there is going to be a difference between the t-25 and the 16g. I prolly need some practice with the launching on the new setup, but I def think these kumhos are hurting me. I have koni yellow shocks and any idea on what to set the front shocks to since they are adjustable?

225/50YR-16 Bridgestone Pole Position S-03 tires, good for everything except cancer and the occasional rabbit. That is all.......
