beat by a neon???

Well I had a little encounter with my Friends neon and it wasn't to pretty. I thought neons were slow, but i guess not. He got me by a good car length and i even had a good launch on him. but he just started pullinjg in me. what happened??? Before you say anything i know how to drive stick I learnt on a 11 second mustang.
 
Looks like you learnt how to spell and speak in a Mustang too. Maybe his car isn't stock. Neons can be fast just like any other car out there, hope you are more humble now.
 
Well I found out that he has crane 16 cams, cold air intake, underdrive pulley, mopar performance computer, and aem cam gears. He says that he runs low 14's in it(which i now believe because I saw him beat my friends 1998 manual z28 w/exhaust), but still is this right!!

Wow, that Z28 driver needs to get rid of that car because he cant drive for shit. That is a low 13 second car that should not be getting beat by a 14 second neon. :cool:

In all reality you usually see them running High 13's and low 14's.
 
yeah, I don't want to get knocked for this, but neon's do have potential(I used to work on them until I found out about DSM's)....

1) They're dirt cheap
2) If you gut the interior and remove other things like p/s and ac you can get he car to just under 2000 lbs.
3) The Hahn racecraft turbo's that can be put on them are almost all mitsu turbo's and with 10psi and no internal work can put down 225-230 whp, which on a car that light is 13 flat(estimate)
4) Len Ayala run's as close to flat 9's in the 1320 as you can get with a 20g turbo and built internals
5) They're really dirt cheap

and like someone said on this board before, they belong to dodge, so their car's are kinda like cousins to our cars....something to think about
 
my friend just beat a neon, in his justy

its a subaru, built in hungary, 70 hp, 3 cylinders, and has 4wd LOL

i cant belive he managad to beat a neon
 
LOL, I have a friend who has a justy, they don't weigh much at all, I'd be surprised if it topped out over 1500 lbs
 
i think its 1780, cause my friends has 4wd which adds a little weight, its like imposible to stall, LOL,
 
i have a friend that runs high 13's in a somewhat mildly modded and stripped neon. they are actually pretty good cars to tune as he's shown me.
 
i was behind a car at a red light one time and a Neon reved on me....then i saw him take off....lets just say if he ever reved on me again i dont think i would race him, that was one faaast fricking neon. oh but i was all factory then, let me find him in a few weeks.
 
Man i don't know about yall but i have a 90 talon tsi awd and stock i could blow away a stock 2g idon't know if they're slower or what but theres something diffrent maybe because they have crysler engines in them. but i'm definetly 1g all the way.



ohhh yeah and i don't know where yall are finding these fast neons cause i have yet to find one that could beat me and i'm running low 14's i'm sure theres one out there though.
 
dude, is your 1g stock? cause i dont think dsms run low 14s from the factory, and your talking about your cars having a crysler engine? i was under the impresssion that all turbo dsms had 4g63s from mitsu... also it could be a weight issue, if you actualy beat 2gs... stock to stock that is
 
I agree that 1gs are easilly modded and can go faster on the stock turbo. but stock vs stock they arent faster than 2g sorry dude but your wrong. Much better turbos in the 1g make it faster potential turbo wise, but stock no way. I run 15.1 at 94 mph with the a/c on 9psi and pump gas all stock, and bald a$$ tires.
 
When i first got my car it was bone stock,i ran it at a near by drag strip and i ran a 14.4 et. and i know for a fact that my car was stock. maybe some 2gs are faster but i raced a stock 98 eclipse gsx and beat him by about 4 cars and mycar was still stock. And i,ve seen some 2gs with mitsu engines but there are alot that have crysler engines on a crysler engine everything is reversed the cam gears are on the passenger side and they have an all black valve cover you can tell the diffrence when you see one. but all in all i love any dsm but just thought i'd throw something at yall.



ohhh yaeh and if you're running 15.1 at 94 someone messed up somewhere because i ran 14.5 and 90 so somethings not right, or your reaction times were really bad.
 
I have the slip to prove it....and If I was running stock boost without the a/c I know I would run high 14s and again fwd and bald a$$ tires. My rts were .500-.800 no red lights here is the rest

again like I said 1gs are much better with stock turbos and can go 12s with the stock one in...but aftermarket turbos its anyones game.
 
dude what are you talking about... there is only one 4g63, i have one of many, the 420a is reversed like you said right? why would there be two 4g63s that would defeat the purpose of the DSM alliance
 
ok let me get this straight the 420a is the crysler engine i'm not sure if they made a 420a turbo but i know that the 4g63is in every 1g turbo. now i know i've seen alot of 2gs with a 420a engine in them and i've seen a couple of 420a engines that have been turbo charged but i'm not sure if they were turbo from factroy or not.

And i know theres only one 4g63 but i guess from factory dsm put the 420a engines in the n/a cars and they put 4g63 turbos in the turbo charged ones.

actually no one messed up, the mph and your 1/4 do not necessarily have to be proportional to other cars, gst will have higher mph's than AWD's because they got the better top end, but they have traction issues off the start. There are many variables that go into e.t. It's not a very clear cut type of deal.

i beleve its like this

RS, ESi, GS have 420A engines which are chrysler engines, na, but theu have been turboed

GS-T, TSi, GSX, TSi AWD have 4g63, mitsubishi factory turbo chagred
 
We'll we went to the track and my friend ended up running a 13.9 at 97mph(the one in the neon). I didn't want to believe it at first but I saw it with my own eyes. The night before I helped him take out everything to do with the a/c and powersteering. We must have shaved well over 70lbs just by doing that. I guess any car can be fast if you take out some weight.

The 2nd Gen n/t's are chrysler engines.
