i was under the impression that with a stock T-25 you might as well just wind out 3rd gear. i got a trap speed of 92mph near redline this way the last time at the track.

i just read a post on another board that suggests that since the T-25 runs out of steam after 6k or whatever, that you should shift to 4th around 5500 or something. i never thought of shifting to 4th, figured the time used to shift would detract from your ET. or does the power boost in 4th (if there is one) justify such an early shift?

thanks.

Run a dyno test and shift based on your power band. If you really want to get serious you need to know how well YOUR car performs, not some test vehicle. I'd say find that sweet spot and get a shift light adjusted to that point.

it would be nice to go to a dyno but all that costs money plus the pain in the ass to find an AWD dyno

i was just wondering what other racers did.. wind out third or shift to 4th?

if i had a bigger turbo this would probably be a moot point because i know i'll be shifting to 4th but the dinky T-25.....

i have the exact same question...

when im racing fast v8's, I always seem to be taking the race all the way until on top of 3rd where they pass me... not creap on me... they PASS me... then i shift to 4th and it seems like i'll start to creap on them again but its usually too late and the race is over. =/

wow this is an old post.. hehe. i just read that thread, but the guy writing it has a 1G. don't the 14b's pull all the way to redline? the T-too small in 2Gs, as we all know, loses boost after roughly 5500rpm. So, with this differing factor, do we 2G guys still want to run 2nd and 3rd to redline? or do we want to shift to the next gear whenever boost begins to drop round 5500 or so?

Don't shift to fourth you will not have enough time left to make up for the shift. When I had my t-25 I ran it like this 1st 7000, 2nd 6500, 3rd 6700, and finished with a 14.53 @ 96mph. Now with big28 I shift at 7000 every time. I haven't been to track with it yet but in the 1/4 I'm over 100mph now so we'll see what happens next month.

Your shift points will depend on a couple of things. Turbo, Cams and other supporting mods... With a full 3 inch exhaust and 2 1/4 IC pipes my T25 would go from 18 psi down to 13 psi by redline. I found that my shift points with the stock cams was about 7200 in 1st because it came so fast with a 5000 rpm launch. My second gear shift would be between 6600-6800 rpm depending on how fast I reached the rpm and how fast my boost was dropping. You will need to do a couple of runs to see if you want to shift into 4th. (you need to keep in mind that shifting takes time and you might be crossing the line during that shift) I found in my 98 GSX I could get to 102+ mph in 3rd gear so you may not need to shift. My faster E.T's were when I didn't shift. Once I was making more power I had to shift. (you will find that the T25 is killing you)
