this may have been brought up before. the search function found nothing.

where do you guys get your helmets from? i ain't looking to spend much money on one. just thought i would throw this out there & see if anyone knows where to get a cheap helmet. preferrably open faced. Keystone raceway is a really tight place since the new management took over & i got sent home last year after my tech inspection. i guess that they have seen thier fair share of dsm's through there and knew that i would be faster than a 14.0. LOL

thanks appreciate it. summit racing actually has some decent prices i have noticed. i will check this site out too, maybe check around the local bike shops. i need to do something quick, don't want to borrow any of my friend's nasty sweaty helmets. LOL

I just got back from World of Wheels here in Chicago. They were blowing out Bell helmets w/M2000 snell ratings. I picked one up for $65.

Search on ebay for cheap/used helmets.

Only buy a cheap helmet if you think that you have a cheap head.

You've got a big pair to call that a stupid comment. I've probably been racing for longer than you been alive. What's stupid is trying to economize on saftey equiptment. My car goes through the lights at 150 mph and you can bet your ass that I have the best helmet that I can buy. I saw one of my friends roll a car three times at Atco in Novenber and he walked out of it. Maybe you should ask him if he was glad to have been wearing a $400 helmet not a "$65 dollar special". I've seen plenty of crashes over the years, I've even seen a kid die on a thirteen second pass so don't think it can't happen.

i am sure you can understand how "Only buy a cheap helmet if you think that you have a cheap head." can be taken as a "smart" reply. or maybe i am just very used to receiving them on the boards. if you would have put more explanation into it, (like your second post) i wouldn't have taken it that way & looked at the reply differently. trust me, if i could afford to spend $400 on a helmet right now i would. sorry if i offended you. unlike some people, offending other members is most certainly not what i am here to do. honestly....no offense man. and if you have been drag racing for 27 years, more power to ya.

I am only suggesting that safty is the most important thing, that includes everything about the car, seat belts, required safty equiptment, etc. Even the simple things can cause problems. I've seen bad crashes due to people using cheap auto parts store fuel line for their trans cooler lines, when one of those lines breaks and oils the slicks at 135 you've got trouble. Before you go to the track you want to look over your car, brakes, front end, etc. Murphy's Law applies at the track, and you can't count on the tech inspectors to catch all of the problems. Everyone is responsible for their own safety. I suggest that anyone planning to race go out and buy a NHRA rule book and read it before they go. I'm sorry if I'm a little nuts with this s@#t, but even if everything is ok with a car bad things can happen, the guy in the lane next to you can lose it. The only thing that you can do at that point is hope that your car is safe and that your helmet and belts are good. I just want everybody to be aware that this stuff is nothing to be taken lightly. If you do want to save money on a helmet Stroud Safty( 800 554 4648 ) makes a very good one that is a little less than Simpson and some of the others.
