I just got back from racing at Sacramento Raceway's Test N Tune today. It was crowded, I only got 4 runs, and only one run was good. Luckily my best run set a new record for an AWD DSM on a 14b! 11.516 @ 114.39mph.

Believe it or not, I was hoping to do better.
I was hoping to do some hot laps and try out different things to see what works. I installed a few new mods since last time, and I needed time to sort out the tune. I left at the end of the day with the logs showing only ONE count of knock all day. There's plenty of room to give it more timing. I also didn't try doing a burnout, who know's what my 60' time would've been with clean, hot tires?

My profile is up to date. The new mods I added since last time are a smim with a FFtec.com leakproof TB, ETS fmic with shortroute pipes, and FP2 cams. To see what I did before, check out my previous thread here www.dsmtuners.com/forums/drag-strip/307016-so-close-part-2-a.html? Thanks for reading!

Very nice! What type of fuel where you using to achieve theses times? I am very interested in trying to make the most gains in my 14b, But thats off subject. Do you have a video on your runs? btw congrats on the time:thumb:

wow! great times with the stock turbo

what kind of tires were you running on??

DRs? or just street tires?

:thumb:

a 14b going that fast is crazy, Because of people like you I'm goin to skip a evoIII and just max out the 14b until i get a hx35 setup.

good call on the hx35 brotha. them some sweet ass times with that 14b, thats frickin insane!

I am curious why you decided on a 1.6L head. I am still on my stock 1.6L head, and know for a fact in the very near future I am going to be restricted with it. I am going to give the head a chance, but I am not optimistic. We are running a 1.8L head on our BW S374 car and love it. It is the best of both worlds though.

Wow I havn't been on here long but have been looking for a post just like this some one with the stock 14B maxing it out very impressive congrats on your new record:thumb:

Thanks everyone!
To answer all the questions;
I was using Sunoco 116 octane gas. Tires are BFG drag radials, size 225/50x15.
The car weighs 2640 without me in it. 2810 with me in it. I didn't exactly 'decide' on a 1.6 head, I just called around when I needed a new head and that's what I got. I did some dremeling on it to make it better. I guess it's working well. I didn't see any knock pockmarks in the combustion chamber when I had the head off a few months ago, so I kept it.

I was at the track chit chatting with Dave before most of his runs and he definitely represented for the DSMs yesterday. He came in with the most inexpensive/simple tuning devices and the smallest turbo and waxed ALL the 4g63 equipped cars (including Evos) by an embarrassing margin.

He just reminded people why he's STILL the man.

way to go Dave!!! I knew SAC would net you some good times.

Now go back to FFTEC and get on the rollers to get that tune sorted out more so you can further impress the DSM crowd!!

Don't get to comfortable.....

I think he's pretty comfortable already...you're a bit late to chime in with a comment like that. Good luck making him uncomfortable.

Awesome! I need to start paying more attention and keeping up with whats going on with this stuff. You keep raising the bar, it'll give me something to shoot for when I finally start building what I want too. Your name has been added to those who give inspiration for these types of projects! And you've got more left in it!

haha!
Hey Phil! check out this quote. It's one of your replies to Leon. I shortened it a little for clarity.

..it is what it is.....I have made no excuses...I am very happy with consistent 12.0 performance at my level.
Glad to hear you do more than just drag race, that's great. With my Talon, drag race is the main purpose. The reason I started trying to make the stock turbo faster is because I didn't have all the crazy money to go ahead and mod the car to high potential all in one shot. So, I worked with what I had, a small tweak here or there. 2.83 seconds shaved off the stock ET, and 22.32 MPH gain over stock trap, not an easy feat. No big deal about the thanks thing, I thought you and I might be a little more direct than that considering we are the only two DSM's in history to come this far on the 14b. Anyway, enjoy your spot at the top...........
.........just don't get too comfortable

I feel relieved now that I know where the quote came from, at first I thought Laser-Fist's reply was a little disturbing. I guess he has a good memory.

if thats actually what he ment by saying that,.. DAMN

thats one HELL of a long shot quote. Im surprised you found it dave. But then again, you are exactly the type of person to find it.

haha!

That's pretty interesting. I would have forgot about that most likely if you didn't remind me here. We went back and forth pretty good back then, no need to rehash why, but, that is pretty funny actually. That's when I was in the heat of the competition, you know?
Now, it has been one year yesterday since I've run the car. I ran it twice that weekend a year ago, and it had been 3 years that I had not run the car before that. So, needless to say, I'm out of the 14b race actively. That's why it's nice to see you going for it. And, I can't say I'm not happy to see Leon's number finally fall. I wanted to be the one to do it, but my life over the past years has not enabled me to get to the track.

Hopefully, next year that will be different.

Now....go get Nate's 11.44 N02 run and I'll only have you to beat!
