Well I've decided to take my dsm out to the strip down here this weekend for test and tune to get a time slip to see where I'm at and to help me to reach my goal. I know this subject is really beaten into the ground, but you guys have been really helpful to me in the past few months and I hope you can help me now.

You guys got any good tips for my first time out? What time should I expect to not be dissapointed? Are a couple runs going to do some damage to internals? I dont' know, help me out guys.

If I were you I would expect Mid to low 14's. Then again you are auto.

Don't expect 14's. I went out to the track for my first time the other weekend and was pretty much the 2nd slowest car there, next to a stock 90 something Accord. This was with some "stock" manual Civics as well. Granted I was full weight and had my GF and some tools in the back, just got done with my brake setup. They weren't running the times that night but I was passing the line at around 86mph, so my best "guestimation" was maybe a 15.7 to 15.8 . My guestimation was from looking at other's profile on here.

Well, I'm not totally sure if what he is asking is bench racing. He's simply asking for a estimation on a time he "may" run, at a track mind you, as well as any tips for his first time at the track.

Exactly, just wanted to know what to expect from any other possible auto/tranny guys with a similar setup and some possible tips for my first time on the track down here. I am getting a timeslip, but I don't care if I'm the slowest car there, I just want to know where I'm at to help me get to my goal - mid 12's to 11's.

1st: New plugs and wires aren't needed if your current setup is working properly. I would suggest to you to pull the plugs and re-gap them once you get to the track. I run NKG bpr7es plugs gaped at 0.28, yours may very.

2nd: As for launching techniques for an auto, my best assumption (since my tsi is a 5 speed) would be to brake boost the car and use the e-brake to hold it at the beams. Take your time (not literally) getting good at launching. The more times you practice launching the car, the better. You can also pull the passengers side headlight to allow more air to get into the filter (if you still have a stock location style intake on the car). You could leave your rear seats at home and passenger side seat if possible as well. Don't have more then a 1/4 tank of fuel in your car when you run it at the track. Hopefully this is a little helpful. Let us know how your "de-virgin-izing" goes.

My mods are in my profile, except I had stock intercooloer+pipes, and my best was a 16.0. 99 Auto gsx. I did have some junk in my backseat, tools, spare tire .

Heres a tip:Slowly move and stage to the first light. Then when you are at the first yellow light stop. Brake boost, and let up on the brake VERY slightly to stage into the second yellow light. This way your fully boosting and ready to go when you are fully staged. This works for me, but our track uses "pro tree?" where the lights drop VERY fast within a second and its green. Not the grand turismo style lights.

Also between runs, make sure your car cools down by opening the hood, shutting off the car, and putting on the a/c so the fans turn on.

I dont think I'm wrapping my mind around the concept of "brake boosting", I've been trying between stoplights down here late at night, but I cant seem to rev up past 2000 rpms. I am most likely doing something wrong, but if someone could step by step it that would be awesome for me!

Brake boosting:

Since you are on the stock converter you might not be able too. Im on the stock converter too and I can brake boost up to 2700. You have a 16g so I'm not sure if your the same but..

1st: You mash the brake.

2nd: Give it about 60-75% throttle and let the boost build. As the boost is building you will feel the brakes letting loose so you may need to pull the e-brake as well. This may take a bit not sure. It takes my 14b about a full 5-6 seconds to build about 9psi. (May be shorter time but it sure does feel like forever.)

3rd: This can be done 2 ways but happens in a split second so its up to you or how it just comes out as a reaction, my case usually. 1a:Let off the brake and floor the "remainder" of the gas pedal 1b: Floor the remainder of the gas pedal and than let off the brake pedal and e-brake (DON'T FORGET THAT, I do sometimes ) and feel the rush as your thrown back into the seat.

I'll give it another try, thanks for the tip. I haven's seen any boosting yet, but I'll keep at it. Thanks. By the way, have to do it this coming up Friday because I had this Sunday off and the tracks closed on Sundays now, didn't know, so test & tune is still on Fridays so I'll take her then.
