Cant break into 14s???

Hey guys...

just got back from the track and was looking to dip into the 14s finally, but no dice. My best run of the night was a 15.2 @ 91mph w/ a 2.2 60ft (15psi falling to 10psi at redline). My other run was a 15.2 @ 89mph with a 2.1 60ft. Is it me, or does something sound wierd there. My 60fts could be better yes....but my friend ran 14.6 @ 89 w/ a 2.0 60ft with reletively the same mods....shouldnt I atleast run 14.9? It was only my second time at the track ever....but Im not a horrible driver, just not the best I guess. Any tips for launching?

tip number 1: get a studderbox

tip number 2: practice a lot (at the track numb nuts)

tip number 3: if you can smell burnt clutch, you let the clutch out too slow, if you bog down, you let it out too fast.

tip number 4: look at your shift points, the t too small runs out of air really fast, and shifting at lower rpms will probably help. You should never see over 7k rpms on that turbo imo.



drop the catback and throw in some race gas, then lean it out. LOL

I would get a logger something doesn't seem right. Basically your just as fast as a stock car but you have a turboback and still running stock times. I could see if you where at my elevation but I see your in Florida so that throws that out the window. If you did have a logger what was your timing? Sounds like something isn't adding up
 
I bog at times and I dont let the clutch out slow.

hell, I have bogged on a on a 6000rpm stutter with 17psi off the line. damned cheater slicks grip too much even when they are cold.

as for the not knowing what Im talking about, is that not a simple way to make more power?

I'm assuming that if he does that, he has some means of AT LEAST monitoring knock, and if not, he also has a wideband o2 sensor like I do. As for droping the exhaust, its a known fact that the shorter the lenght of the exhaust, the less resistance the gases have traveling through them. (see any physics book ever written)

most people who CAN lean their car out, also have a datalogger at the least.
 
Check for boostleaks, you should be running mid 14's@94-95mph on a stock 2g awd.
 
I got a faster time on my t25 by shifting redline for 1st gear and 6500 for the rest. You might want to try that.

Boost leaks, exhaust leaks (dropping from 15 psi to 10 psi on a T28 even with the stock actuator is just not right), condition of turbo, vac leaks, TPS position, etc.

It looks like you've got a decent start on mods, so it's probably something maintenance-wise or small that's keeping you from at least trapping higher (ET's are more dependant on your driving than trap speed).
 
yeah there is deffinatly something up, i could pull better times (14.7) and i am FWD with just a catback on my car at that time. Start hunting for leaks of all sorts like said above

this is a very old thread and my mods list has grown...this post was made when i was on a t25 at 11psi and getting consistant shitty 2.2 60fts...Now im on a T28 at only 14psi...still gotta work on the launches.

Im running an AGP T28 at 14psi (no fuel mods) I just got back from the track last night and ran a 14.9 @ 95 with a harcore bogged launch (2.3). I only had 3 runs and the other 2 I totally messed up...so this was my only REAL run of the night. I gotta work on my launches then Ill see some low-mid 14 second passes.
 
Wow, I did 14.9 on my Spyder with hks bov, 16 psi & a starquest front mount(everything else stock). 3 mods only & I had 3 ten subs, amps, DVD player & full interior. I think maybe with the AFC you need to be TUNED. I never went to redline though. When I felt to boost leveling off I switched gears. My power band wasn't that great wiith the t2slow. It go to 16 then drop to 12psi then I'd switch gears. Mad wheel spin I'd spin 3rd as well.

The guys above are right, I've seen stock GSXs run anywhere from 14.2-14.9.

All you need now is a full Garett setup and a bullet prove bottom end to run 14.5. :D
 
yea i had my stock awd (with turbo back) and i would hit 16psi and spike at 12 by redline and i had a 60 ft of 1.8 and a 1/4 of 14.3 and i run that all day long. just yesterday my 50 trim came in so i hope to see some big numbers with that.:talon:
