I have tried everything and nothing has worked, i spin my tires like a friggin shmo. Today I raced a friend of mine in his 99 Mustang GT (we went 1-1) and my biggest problem was fvking wheel spin. It is not that i launch at too high an rpm, because i have tired everything from 1k to 3.5k and still, even if i have traction at first, my wheels spin at around 5k to 7k in first, and some in 2nd also!!! I know that I am driving a fwd car, but there has to be some way to help this, and again i repeat i don't think it has to do with launching rpms (i spin at the end of 1st). I was talking with my friend after the races and all we could come up with is shitty tires or maybe something with the wheels. My tires are Yokohana A550V (then P205 55K16 89V if that matters) are these crappy? (stock wheels) Car max put them on and my online searching about these tires has come up dry, anyone know? I really need any suggestions especially as to what kind of tire to use, if i don't start gaining traction in the first 2 gears the stangs 3rd gear will end up killing me. Thanks for any help, anything will be greatly appreciated.

As far as tires im not completely sure...

but i have 18"s with kumho rubber and i dont spin as bad.

You say u've tried lauching around 3-3.5k right? Are you slipping or dumping? With me... i spin at first then i feel my tires catch around 5k or so and its over after then... no spin at all except for a small 2nd gear scratch.

What I am really pissed about more than anything is my spin at the end of 1st gear, between 5k-7k rpms. This is after I have complete traction from 1k-4.9k and it starts to slip/spin at the end of the gear. Although, sometimes I do spin excessivly at the first of my launch due mainly to human error, this later rpm spin really pisses me off. Any thoughts on tires?

Well... according to your profile you just have a filter upgrade, so if that's all you have I would think your holding your own very well, even with the wheel spin. Stock 99-02 mustang gt's run low 14's.

I am pretty sure that it is the wheels, not the clutch but i will try and listen more carefully next outing.

And thanks for the compliment, his 3rd gear is killer, I just got him off the light.

Any comments on tires?

Sure. get some better tires :) Also try backing off the throttle just a bit when you get to 5k rpm. Then feed the throttle back in gradually and feel for when they break loose again. Your tires aren't going to let anymore power get to the ground, so don't loose the hookup. That's called 'pedaling" the car. If you get a feel for it now you'll be much faster when you get more mods, otherwise you'll just get even more wheelspin and go slower.

Hey Tip, I got the same kind of problems you are running into. It's tough, racing from a roll in first is horrible, I just spin them and scratch 2nd gear and then start to pull. And I got basically new tires. I am going to start to try the "pedaling" it thing. Good luck to all of us FWD turbo guys. Jake

If you get too much wheelspin try not flooring it as hard, I'm assuming you have never been to a 1320 track before. I don't have any problem with wheelsping once the car starts moving. I myself prefer to launch higher and slip the clutch more but thats what works for me, I think your problem is you are hitting boost too hard before the car is moving fast enough to take the momentum try launching at around 3500-4000 and slipping the clutch just a half-second or so longer.
