remove muffler on raceday?

i have an aftermarket exhaust and was wondering how much of a difference removing the muffler would make at the track, running the 1/4 mile.

i would think that if you are alrdy aftermarket that taking off the exhuast would be nothing but a WTF is that sound show.

It depends on what your cars ideal exhaust pressure is. If the car is at its exhaust pressure ideal with the muffler removing it will cause a decrease in the pressure therefore you will loss "speed". If on the other hand the muffler is strangling the exhaust removing it could be a definate advantage.
Testing this on the track would be the best way. The dyno may not show the difference because of the dissimilarities of a dyno verses a drag race.

if you have aftermarket exhaust, it probably wont help. if you want something that could possibly help, remove the whole catback, just watch the boost creep.

and as far as drag racing goes, no exhaust is good exhaust...anything more is a resriction, no matter how little. you dont want backpressure.

Perfectly said.... no exhaust is the best. What was said earlier isnt true, you will have nothing to lose at all
