Hey guys ... I was talking to a mechanic today about what i can do to get more power out of my 16g and he suggested something I didnt think was feasible .....

My father is a mechanic but only works on Large trucks (18 wheelers etc) and installs turbo's in these trucks all the time ... This mechanic suggested i get a garret turbo off of a big mac truck and get my dad to slap it on my talon ..... my dad doesnt think this can be done ....

Perhaps some of you advanced tuners could shed some light on this proposal .... your expertise is greatly appreciated in advance

Thanks

perhaps a better answer would be this

Well..

Most Mitsubishi turbos (our 16g and 20g, for example) are primarily used on big trucks.

This could definately be done, but it would take some research and some custom fabrication.

First, you would have to look over comprssor maps of turbos commonly used on trucks, and find on that would fit your car.

Second, you would have to make sure the exhaust housing would be satisfactory.

Third, you would have to build flanges for everything, so it would bolt together.

The end result is a bigger, but untried turbo, that cost more than a turbo built for your car.

This topic dosent belong in the advanced section. Shit a trained chimp could figure out this one. If your dad works on big trucks, like 18 and 22 wheelers. Go to his work sometime and take a look at one. Most are twice the sized of a t88. You could bolt one up, with alot of custom fabrication. But Your not going to be able to spool that size of a turbo. I saw this done on a 300zx drag car. It ran 8 seconds on a transport turck turbo. The turbo on this thing was huge, but was probley one of the smaller truck turbos. Just get this thought out of your head.

Feelin cray, i have a brand new air reasearch t04 jet turbo. Yep straight from the navy, brand new, no shaft play!!!!

It's soo huge, all it's good for is a door stop.

If you're serious about getting a truck turbo, look at smaller turbo/deisel delivery trucks, not 18 wheelers. I've heard that's where the 20G and 25G came from. I wouldn't mind spending a few hours in a truck wrecking yard someday. Mitsubishi trucks are also known as Mitsu/Fuso. Goood Luck!

I fabed the adapters and mounted a Buick Grand National T-3 on my 91AWD. Alot of people told me it wouldnt work, not only did it work, but it ran low 12s.
The problem with deisel turbos is that they usualy have very large turbine housing A/Rs. Luckily turbine housings can be easily changed.
Don't give up on the Idea, but do you homework.
