I know 1g rods from the 6bolt motors have 14mm bolts:thumb:..i recently seen the internals of a 1g 7 bolt rod and i noticed they are 12mm:confused:..y would they down grade ROFL..But let me get to the point, im guessing if your looking to make power wit a 7 bolt rod you'd change the bolt's to arp..Now since the 6 bolt rod is a 14mm bolts is it nessesery to put arps in it or leave it??

Yes you are right. The 6 bolt rod bolts are similar to what a arp's would act like. They take a higher torque number during assembly and don't stretch nearly as much as a 7 bolt rod. The 7 bolt rod bolt is torque to yeild. The first time you torque them down they require I think like 14.5 ft/lbs of torque but after that you must use a stretch method to correctly torque them down. PITA if you ask me. When I build customers engines and they want to use stock rods I refuse to build them unless they get ARPs and recon'd. It pointless to reuse 7 bolt rod bolts.

Yeah I dont know why they would down grade engine internals over the years of the 1g's...:banghead: So do you think it is nessesery to change the rod bolts of a 6 bolt when goals are over 500hp??

With 500hp in mind you should use a better rod. The cost difference between a set of steel h beams and rebuilding a stock set is negligible.

Yes if your taking apart the short block and have goals over 450hp I would go with a aftermarket rod, but this goes for the people that don't want to take the stock short block apart..
