the "doner car" i picked up for my build came with a short block in it already. little did i know (until i dropped the trans) that it was a 6 bolt. So im ASSUMING that these are stock 6bolt rods/pistons. i just want to make sure. also, i took a pic of the sides of the pistons which have a small amount of scoring (i guess regular wear) and would like to make sure they would be reuseable...

i was thinking of going eagle/wiseco, but if i can use these and save $7-800 then i just might... im looking for 4-500awhp off of my hx35. any thoughts? thanks guys

The rods appear to be stock turbo rods. The pistons are def. 1g turbo pistons for sure. You can tell by the ring land distances. If they are genuine Mitsu pistons, there will be a Mitsubishi emblem by the wrist pin. As for the rods, some measurements would be needed to verify which set you have.

I concur that you have a 6-bolt piston and rod combo. I'm not sure that the over sized, original pistons kept the same designation, but "63DT" is the OEM designation for a stock size 6-bolt turbo piston while 2G cars (not sure if all 7-bolt) were denoted by "63DT F1". The 7-bolt rod has vertical (stacked) lettering on it while the 6-bolt rod has horizontal (left-to-right) lettering. The oil jet on the 6-bolt rod is also more flush than on a 7-bolt rod.

Here's a couple 7-bolt (left) vs. 6-bolt piston/rod comparison pictures:

wow good info!! :thumb:

i swore i wasnt going to rebuild this block or aim for that 500awhp mark, but after i took this rod out i think i got reeled in :toobad:

Yep, those are definitely stock 6 bolt pistons and rods. :) I also agree that it looks like they were hung with a torch.

How can you tell? Just a little curious.

Look at the area in red. The small end is heated to insert the pin. when they look this discolored from heat, they used a torch, instead of a heater.
