So I just picked up a short block from someone. No known history, only knew it was a 6-bolt.

Long story short, its a N/T block (no oil squirters), 6-bolt crank, 7-bolt oil pan, 7-bolt ofh (water cooled), 1g rods (I think), 2g NPR .40 over pistons. It looks to be a 7-bolt front case, because its running the oil pan to match (correct?).

Is this possible?

It did spin a balance shaft bearing, to the point where it binded up and locked the timing belt to have all the pistons go emo with the valves...

I'll get pics up tomorrow night!

Neither the front case nor the OFH from a 7-bolt will bolt up to a 6-bolt block. The bolt patterns differ just enough between a 6-bolt and 7-bolt block that this would be impossible.

Later model 6-bolts ('91 and some early '92 models) also had the water-cooled OFH, so it is most likely a 6-bolt housing, meaning the front case also is a 6-bolt.

I just took a much longer look at everything. It is a 7bolt oil pan. They drilled holes in the block to make it all bolt up. So if its a 7bolt oil pan, then is it a 7-bolt front case? Or did they have a 6 bolt front case that would fit a 2g oil pan?
