i have to change my build so i want to rebuild my block all stock looking for about 400HP i'm going with a 16g or a 20g (not sure yet) but what i want to know is do i reuse my pistons or get a set of toplines pistons? my motor set up is a 6 bolt block with a 7 bolt head, the head will be stock except with BC springs and retainers....that way i can upgrade cams at a later date...i plan on using a BSE kit, dsm link, 850 injectors, gm mafs, aem wideband....

i'm just not sure about the pistons the most.....

well you said BC springs, I have no issues with them and install quite a few sets.

what cams do you plan on running?

the "hot" piston swap from what I have read is the 1g 6bolt rods modified to run the 2g 7 bolt pistons

but if you plan on 400hp you may want to concider going Hbeam rods and forged pistons

400hp IMHO is on the outside of a stock rod cast piston set up

you may have read that it can be done... now that makes the question, Can you do that level of tune??

my rule of thumb is if you want 400hp build it to take 600hp

if you over build it then it can take a few more hiccups when you tune

also if you plan on run kelford cams get ferra beehive or the kiggley beehive springs.

you can run the BC springs on the less agressive cams BC272 some of the delta and FP

That's good advice from BogusSVO.

Aftermarket parts are not only stronger, but they will allow the engine to produce more power both efficiently and reliably. The cost difference is not that much greater and you'll have room for future upgrades.
