VFAQ or Chiltons book do not say anything about it and i did not find anything on here, so here is my situation. I followed all the instructions and i just finished adjusting the tension on the timing belt. There is a gap of around .160 (closest size i had of an Allen wrench) between the pulley tensioner arm and the auto tensioner, i tightened the center bolt on the pulley but what about the bolt on the pulley bracket? how tight does that bolt need to be?

Here is a picture with a red arrow pointing at the bolt in question

No matter how tight you tighten that bolt, the arm should be able to swing, it's just there to hold the arm on. I'd say 16-20 ft lbs.

The engine overhaul manual says 16ft lbs. I remember digging all over looking for that spec when I did my belt the first time. IIRC it's not in the regular manual.

It's a good idea to pull the arm off, inspect and lube the pivot when you do the job. When it wears out the belt will walk in the sprockets.

Its supposed to move even if its tight? Oh, i think mine has a problem because it wont budge if its tighten. I will take it out and inspect it, then tighten it to 16lbs if it checks out good.

Thank you for your help.

Hey all I was wondering if anyone knew what is the size of this bolt? I took it off a month ago while doing timing belt change and i cant find the bolt anywhere! i've been searching for the last 3 hours to no luck!!! Would appreciate the help.

It is a m8x1.25. You will need the specific flat washer that holds the tensioner arm on as well. I would order the bolt and washer from the dealership.

yeah i think that will be my best bet... thanks for the quick reply

Just wondering... aren't these bolts common on these cars? I mean as long as the washer is big enough and lets the arm move, what would be the big difference?
