Well after two brand new Top line front case failures (Whining like Crazy) I want to just stop fudging with it and buy an already assembled OEM Mitsu Front case..

I have searched the site as well as some vendor's stores and they only sell the OEM parts (gears and case) to put it together yourself.

I've read on here that some people have actually bought these pumps assebled and ready to be bolted on from the Mitsu. dealer and would like to get the part number if anybody has ordered it from them...

I've called my local dealer asking about it and they are a bunch retards..
The guy asked the vehicle info and when I said it was for a 1990 Eclipse turbo (so that he would give me the price for the 6 bolt pump) they said that only 95-99's had turbos, that my turbo was rigged on there.. I was like WHAT! ROFL ....

So If I can get the part number for a 6 bolt front case with gears already assembled I can then have them just order it in and pray  that hopefuly they won't screw that part up!

Even pre-assembled, you still need to pack the gears with vasoline or moly lube to make sure it's primed and able to draw engine oil through the pump. Meaning, you'd still have to disassemble it, add lube, re-assemble it. I can't say for sure, but the problem may have been with the topline components:idontknow: FYI, the 90 oil pump used straight cut gears and not helical ones and have been known to 'whine', same as a straight cut transmission or supercharger. It doesn't hurt anything but some people think something may be wrong when it's actually operating as it was intended to!

Check the gears in your topline to see if they're straight cut, if so, it would explain the whine.

Thanks for the replies and the part #'s.
I primed all of my previous oil pump installs. I didn't have to take them apart to prime them I simply squeeze molly lube until it starts to come out the other end when the gears are turned, meaning that the gears are already pumping the lube by themselves.

I'm pretty sure the problem does lie on the Topline components, I decided to take the first front case off because I was trying to solve a very loud whine sound my car had and I heard it could have been the pump.
I used the old pump from the donor engine and the problem was solved, no more whine and the car ran fine all day long.... but:notgood: the next morning when I went to start the engine no oil pressure at all. I'm glad I was looking at the gauge and immediately shut the car off. I took the case off and inspected it, it all seemed ok, but I didn't want to chance it.:aha:
So off I go to get New Topline pump thinking there is no way the new one was going to whine, to my surprise when I installed it I turned the car on and there it was again, that annoying loud whine that gets louder as you rev the engine. :notgood: I will never buy another mecanical part from Topline in my life again.

On a side note..
The old pump I used to solve the whine was off a 90 with straight cut gears and the Topline had the helical style. Go figure.

It sounds like it might not be the oil pump but a bearing going out . Drop the oil pan and check for metallic dust or worse yet, slivers. Going through oil pumps that fast shouldn't be happening! I'm thinking you might have something in the pan getting sucked into the pump and causing them to fail so quickly because it sounds like you did everything else right. Use a rare earth magnet to try and draw any ferrous metal towards your drain plug to see if dropping the pan is warranted if you like but I highly recommend a drop and clean before putting another pump on.

check the gears on the old pumps to see if they are still within spec. i'm doing a front case now cause the car i just bought came with a broken bolt that holds the pump sprocket on. i'm either going to have to replace the large gear with that bolt or replace the whole damn thing. i found it was broken when i went to prime the oil system and there was no nut to spin the oil pump. damn sprocket pulled off and i then noticed the damn broken bolt.
Also since the pan is comming down just check for contamination and pieces of metal as it was stated earlier. most things that fail are made of non-metallic soft metal but hey, try the magnet anyway, you never know.

It is not metal shavings or any other thing getting ito the pump...when I finish putting on the case and go to start the car the whine is there from start. It is the pump gears, trust me on this. I've put like 3 different pumps and they all make a different kind of sound and the old stock one I used, stoped the whine completly, but unfortunately the next day for whatever reason it couldn't lift the oil fron the oil pan with just the starter..
My theory is that either the pump's gear cap wasn't sealing completely or there was some other place where air was able to get in and therefore the oil went down the oil pick up line overnight and couldn't lift it back up because the pump gears were empty, and for them to create suction at starter idle speed they need to be prined.... Just my 2 cents

I checked the toleraces on all pumps they all were within spec..

I did see signs of little wear where the gears spin (on the aluminum case) but nothing too bad.. I imagine that is where it's making the whine sound though.:toobad:

Gool luck on yours. If you are taking off the front case, replace all the seals while you are at it and be careful when installing the new pump.. on one of my installs the crankshaft seal catched the crank edge and I didn't noticed until I started the car and oil started seeping out..
