First i must start off by saying this car is not the car in my profile that will be getting these posible cams. This is my brother-in-laws 1g awd 5 speed.

His mods are as follows : evo3 16g ,255 lph , aeromotive afpr . Safc2, 2g exausht manifold , Fhr aluminum intake , dejon tool pipe with a 2g maf, 550 injectors 3 inch down pipe out the back, stock bottom end 6 bolt. Full front mount with 2.5 piping.

Ok now we are doing a basic rebuild swap the head gasket for a 4 layer and running arp head studs.

I want to no if a set of cams will add more hp . Not just more but a noticable gain?

I need to know a good setup and who all makes good cams? I like comp cams and have run several. Do they make a goods set for the 4g63?

I want something that is good but not crazy in price. Thanks.

How much boost are you running? Cams would definitly make a noticable difference, I would look in to some 272's or maybe a 264/272 combo. Brain Crower cams are pretty good.

We will be running 19psi 20psi street . Track 25+ 112 octane. Im just wanting to get it right the first time. Why does the 264 work good with a 272 ? That seems like one cam would be chocking the flow of the other? So have you run the 264/272 combo? thanks.

What kind of horsepower we talking 4000-7500? Real numbers.

I run DKS 264/272 cams and love'em. I tried a 272 intake cam and it felt a bit more powerful, but lost a lot of power down low. The 264/272 combo with my 50 trim gives me the low end power I like with endless top end. I usually run 25psi on the street, but towards the end of the season stepped it up to 31psi.

Step up to the 272s or motors respond very well to them and they pull all the way to red line.

There's no real need to get into a lot of theory here though, it's not like this is the first time someone wants to run cams on an EVO16g. :) Any of the smaller upgrades do very well. Your typical 264s and 272s, magical combos of the two, FP2s, etc.

I always feel that cams are worth the cost. And extra 3-4 lbs/min at the same boost is a good thing (especially for pump gas power), as long as you choose wisely and don't give up a lot of low end needlessly.

Accoring to the the graphs I've seen, the 264/272s make about 60-65hp more at 4500 rpm than stock cams. Same car for all tests with a 16g. Around 6000 rpm it levels off but is still 10-15hp more than stock cams. All the cams tested fell off after about 6000rpm.

Well ive been doing research and i am feeling that a 264/272 combo is they way to go i would like to retain low end torque . Where can i get a set 264/272 combo? Is the specs on the hks the same as other 264/272 grinds? like hks b/c and others .

Two cams with the same advertised duration from different manufactures can (and probably will) be completely different! Even full cam card specs don't say anything about the actual profile.

Has anyone tried both the 264/264 and the 264/272 on the same engine? On the AMS Performance web page they say that the 264/264 combo had better spool and off boost power than the 264/272s. Their dyno graphs however show the opposite. Can anyone verify this?
