Hey Guys im rebuilding a 1g head on a budget and i was just wondering if i could clean and resuse the valves? The valves are all in good shape just dirty none of them bent. How would recommend cleaning them? or is it just better to buy new ones?

Thanks Ben

there is no problem what so ever reusing your valves. if you mixed them up then i would recommend a valve job, the machine shop will bead blast them and clean them up when you get a valve job done so then you wont have to clean them. if you don't have the money for a valve job then i would suggest using a wire brush or if you have a air tools a wire wheel on a die grinder (which will be much faster) to clean all the carbon and stuff off of them. then get some lapping compound and the suction cup and relap your valves to the seats. now if your exhaust valves are really pitted on the sealing surface you may not be able to get them to seal properly because of the pitting (on intakes you usually don't see it, its mainly on the exhaust valves) so there a chance you could be good and theres a chance you might not be, if your just gonna relap them that is. I say if you got the cash just get a nice 3 angle valve job done.

Thanks for the quick reply Mike

I planned on getting a valve job im trying to save money for the machine work. so is there anyway to clean all of the deposites off of the valves that is safe and wont damage them?

it depends on what mood im in when i do them........... theres 1 of 2 ways thats works very well and thats media blasting them and wire wheeling them with a die grinder. neither one will hurt the valves. but if you are going to get a valve job done then don't even worry about cleaning them because the machine shops usually charge a "cleaning" charge when you go get the work done and that will include cleaning the valves. and even if you did use some method that could "hurt" the sealing face on the valves then when the valves get recut during the valve job process they will be good as new. (assuming that you didn't wear a giant groove in the sealing or something extreme.
