I've been wondering about these HKS headgaskets. I'm wondering if they are worth the little extra money.
Slow Boy seems to really like the HKS headgasket. I just have never seen anyone using one.
I'm looking for the HKS headgasket application that is closest to the thickness of an OEM Mitsu MLS metal headgasket. Choices are 1mm thick, 1.2mm thick, 1.6mm thick (I know its not this one).
So can anyone share their experience with these headgaskets?

BTW, I think I'll just clean up my block and have a machine shop deck my head. I've never run anything over 18psi on my Evo3 16g, and I've never really driven my car. So the block shouldn't be in need to be decked. I'm just decking the head just in case and it's easy to do since it will be off anyway.
Thanks!

The 1mm is closest to the stock headgasket thickness. I can't say that it's any better than the Mitsubish or Cometic gasket, because I've never used it. I've used the Cometic and Mitsubish MLS gaskets though and I've never had an issue.

The head needs to be extremely smooth to use a MLS gasket. There is a specification for surface texture, it's called Ra. Most machinist's don't have the capability to determine the Ra of a machined surface. I would try to find a machinst that does have the tool.

Why do you want to replace the stock gasket? Is it blown?

It's not blown. I got a GT30r and cams. I just need to order the head studs and headgasket. Just need to decide on headgasket first before I order the studs.

From searching the forum, I've gathered to have the head surface so smooth its polished. Never knew there was more to decking a head then just having it decked. :)

I run one in my galant and mirage. They were both used in a high horsepower car so I got them second hand. They hold well. I run a 1.4 in the galant and a 1.6 in the mirage. Both cars run great. Both use ARP's.

The galant is on a 14b and the mirage is a SCM6176.

Mitsubishi MLS and stock head gaskets work great as well.

So when you had the HKS gasket in your hands how did it feel? Like it was worth the extra money? Like it was something more special then the OEM Mitsu MLS 4 layer headgasket? Like that HKS gasket could have held back Niagara Falls?
Come on Steven, I just need to know these things. :p

All the metal ones feel the same to me. Cometic, HKS, MLS, Copper whatever. You won't go wrong with any of them.
