im doing a stock rebuild on a 6 bolt motor. i have the motor out on the engine stand. i just put new main bearings in. i lubed the bearings and layed the crank back in the block. it spins real smooth and easy. but when i put on the main bearing caps on and turn the crank its too hard to turn.. it turns but i takes too much strength. and this even before i toque down the main bearing caps. ive tried prying the crank from end to end to alighn the thrust bearing. did i do something wrong. ?

At what point did you pry on the crank to align the thrust bearing? Was it before, during, or after you torqued the mains? Was there any machine work done on the block or crank?

No offense but it sounds as if you may not know what your doing. Its hard to tell what exactly your doing wrong from the way your worded it, but if I were you, I'd have a engine builder or someone with a bit more experience help you out. It would be a shame to have a new engine die soon.

yes the crank is from another 6 bolt block.. no there was no machine work done. this is my first engine rebuild. i tried to align the trust bearing before i torqed them.but im not sure if i did it right

well i found out the problem. i was using the main bearing caps from the other 6 bolt block..so i put the new bearings on the original bearing caps that go to the 6 bolt block im rebuilding and the crank turns real smooth and easy now. thanks for your help guys
