I searched everywhere and really couldnt find much about it. I am wondering if I will gain or lose anything from putting a 1g head and intake manifold on my 7bolt 2g gsx. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

The benefits of a 1g head on a 2g block is more top end power. the 1g head and intake has almost twice the size intake port, with higher lift camshaft. You will lose a little low end response, but top end is very good.

Not quite twice the size. Just a little bigger. You will gain a little but you would be better off porting what you have. The 1g manifold and head have bigger stock ports but the casting isn't as good so the flow isn't as good as it could be. The 2g head has great casting but smaller ports. I would either port the 2g head and intake or port the 2g head and put the 1g intake manifold on. Make sure you port the head just a little bigger than the intake at the ports though and gasket match it.

Some DSM shops would not recommend putting a 1G intake on a 2G head even though the ports can be matched. To match the runners up you have to lower the 2G port to make it bigger. Bigger is not better in some cases. A properly ported 2G head can out flow a stock 1G head. But IMHO a well ported 1G head will always come out on top.

Good point. Which is why I recommend porting the 2g head first.

I see. Well, I have a great deal on a 1g head and manifold for $75 bux. Full internals and all. I think I may have bent a valve on my 2g head, thus being the reason I asked. I just dont know about going through all the work to put it in. Im debating it.

A 1 G head and intake in stock from will be an improvement over the 2g.

It is true that a properly ported 2G can out flow a 1G, but your going to be looking at a lot of money to get that much out of the head.

Make sure the valve guides, deck surface, and valve seats are all in good order, on your new new. Or it could lead to poor performance or trouble.

Yea, but thats considering I buy it. Its a great deal, but I may just replace my valves and seals and be done with it.

this is what i was looking at doing not too long ago when i had my valve seals decided to take a crap on me..it's a nice option to go with except for the head bolts aren't the same and you can't just use the 2g head bolts because they're longer than the 1g so the head won't seal right..the head might only be $75 but how much is it going to cost you to have your block drilled and tapped to fit the 1g head bolts?

I suggest just getting a nice port job with the 2g head and if you have some extra cash throw ARP's in there as well :thumb:
