I think we need a list of parts for rebuilds . I have seen list for clutch , brakes and so on . However I have yet to see a list of parts to buy for head or block rebuilds . I do not need brands , just types of parts needed . The type of parts you do not think about before you begin such a project . It will ( should ) also help with the How much does this cost threads ?

Here we go:

Standard rebuild using OEM parts. (I'm including some of the parts you would obviously have, just to make it complete)

Short Block:

Block
Machine work (not a part, but you'll be paying for it)
Crankshaft
4 Rods and sets of rod bolts
4 Pistons
Rings (12 pieces in all)
Main Bearings
Rod Bearings
Balance shaft elimination kit, or Balance shafts
Main bolts
Front Cover/oil pump
Rear main seal
Oil pan
Oil pickup
Flywheel
Crank pulley (OEM or other damper pulley)

Head:

Head core WITH cam caps in original locations!
Valves
Valve Guides
Valve springs
Retainers
Locks
Valve Stem Seals
Camshafts
Lifters
rockers
Cam Sprockets (cam "gears")

Assembly of long block:
Headgasket
Head studs/bolts
Full OEM gasket kit (You'll need it all eventually. This will have all the seals and gaskets needed)

Accesories to do at the same time:
Timing belt
Timing tensioner
Timing tensioner pulley
Idler pulley
Oil pump (mentioned above, but it is an accessory)
Water pump

I have a feeling I'm forgetting some things, however I'm just getting off of work... I'll update later (or feel free to add things that I've forgotten)

The problem with associating costs with all of these are there are too many part choices to dictate what exactly something will cost. rods and pistons could cost 100$ used, or 1500$ forged 1000hp plus parts.

Seems easy enough . What is the breakdown of gaskets I will need ? I already have the head gasket ,valve cover gasket , water pump , head bolts ,front cover gasket , and bse kit . Head is a stage II sbr , so that is done . Right now I need to know everything to do with block only . I only have to remove crank gear  and it goes to shop . I do need to start ordering parts . Thanks as always , Ben

If I were you I'd get a full set of OEM gaskets/seals from a company like On Green performance, or any of the others that sell the full sets.

You'll have an extra front cover gasket, and you'll have an extra valve cover gasket, but you will end up using them at some point, or selling them. It just works better to have everything in a kit rather than tryiing to track down single gaskets.

If you're using OEM rods, I'd suggest some ARP rod bolts.

Thanks Greg , good stuff . As far as the rear seal , do I need just the seal or the whole kit ? I think I saw it is like 5-6 pieces .
