Oil Separator

I'm doing a six bolt swap into a 2g. While working on the rear main oil seal, I noticed that in the service manual, there is a part called an oil separator, which goes between the block and the seal itself (I already have the plate and the seal). I'm using a swap kit and this piece isn't included. Do I not need this piece?

Just for future searches I think I should answer my own question. The oil separator is used to lower oil pressure between the oil pan/crankcase and the oil seal. Without it there is a high probability that you will be spewing oil out the back of your engine. The 2g oil seal plate already has this part built into it, so no worries for 2g guys still with the 7-bolt.

Hmm I never reinstalled mine and never had any oil leaks.

Huh, that's interesting. I'm just relaying info that I learned from some very knowledgable local people, but I guess that it varies engine to engine. I'm still goiing to run one, better safe than sorry.

I know its been a while but I'm doing a swap now and thought I'd leave the info for anyone concerned. The oil seperator was used on 6 bolts from 1990 until late 1992. I was at my local dealership today and found that out.
