ok we all know that the 1g nt fuel pressure regulator has a base pressure of 47 psi, and that the 1g turbo has one of around 35 psi. in my current situation i have a 3000gt vr4 fuel pump and stock injectors. now that i've bolted my new 16g fuel rail on i decided to try out this alternative to fuel pressure control.

unfortunately i've yet to get very good fed back from my new o2 sensor since my transmission sprung a leak and won't be done til around til the end of the weak.

now on my car i still have the fuel pressure solenoid controlled by vacum hoses and then the nt pressure regulator. i realize the stock regulator has 1:1 rising rate action and based on the simplistic setup of the vacuum schematics. (manifold ->solenoid->regulator) my assumption is that the positive manifold pressure is being transferred through the solenoid and then acts in a rather simplistic 1:1 rising rate method by providing resistance to the diaphram.

my questions are as follows.

will this 1:1 rising rate action continue even on the nt regulator??
what exactly is the purpose of the fuel pressure solenoid??

This was often discussed in the "old days", before adjustable FPRs became popular. As I recall, they can not deal with boost very well. And besides, I think that 47psi is too high. I have my Paxton FPR set at 43-44psi.

I wonder if 2G FPR would be a better choice, they are running around 43psi.

In ether case, this will not solve a high fuel pressure problem that we we get from high flow pumps at idle.

thanks.

personally i don't have much issue with high pressure since the 3000gt vr4 pump is essentially identical to a 190lph pump. i'll attempt to get some 02 sensor readings as soon as i can. the new o2 sensor should give me fairly decent results hopefully. since my car has no other mods controlling the fuel other than these it should shed light on how these work.

Which solenoid are you talking about?

The one that bolts to the firewall?

You want to know what that does. I don't even have it hooked up.

All it does is at a couple of lbs of fuel pressure when the car is cold. Mine isn't even attached and my car runs fine.

i figured it was something absolutely retarded like that.

Yes it is. Also with that bypassed since my boost gauge is tapped into that FPR line it make the gauge react better.

We tried the nt regulator on my friends car, it didn't work very well. No matter how long you made the injector pulsewidth above 18psi the car would knock. Fuel pressure wasn't rising anymore. I'm not sure if the pump couldn't keep up with the flow demand or if it was a problem the diaphram in the regulator. Either way it didn't work.

The solenoid helps avoid vapor lock during hot starts. I take them out of every car I work on.
