I have a 2g tsi fwd and a fp big t28. I was looking at the forced performance site and I got an idea. My goal for this car is just to open up to airways and squeeze a little more power out. Im doing thise through the turbo, ported exhaust mani, 2.5 inch turbo back, bigger IC piping and a larger sidemount. I wasnt planning on doing injectors but I was going to get a 190 fuel pump so I can raise the boost a bit. But then I saw this actuator. I was thinking of just getting this instead of installing the profec b I have. This way I get rock steady boost. So the question here is do you think that with the mods listed above I should be safe with this actuator? Or is it too high? Thanks in advance guys.

You want to use a new wastegate actuator instead of installing a boost controller you already have?
The advantage of the new actuator is that it allows you to run high boost levels on with less chance of the wastegate blowing open at high RPMs, it was never meant to replace a boost controller. You also may not be able to run less than 17PSI reliably if you do the upgrade (where currently, you may be able to run a steady 11PSI or even a bit less if desired).
Maybe you should just do the fuel pump, IC piping, porting, exhaust and Profec and see where you are at that point. Once you are able to safely run over 17PSI consistently, then the new actuator might come in handy.

I was thinking of using the actuator instead of a boost controller, yes. I know I cant regulate boost with it but I was thinking of doing it for a consistant 17 psi, this is my street car/daily driver. It was just an idea, I mean no worries about boost spike.

Kind of an interesting idea I guess. I don't know of anyone who has actually tried it, but feel free to experiement if you want to be the first. If not, somebody else is probably bound to try it sooner or later.
Just make sure your supporting mods are actually good for 17PSI on the big28 though. You may find that you get knock and want to lower the boost a bit, or decide to put in race gas and want to raise it. Might be tricky to tune with your setup (especially without an AFC or DSMLink).

I have the 17lb actuator installed on my FP ported Big28, and I can say you will not be able to run anything lower than 17psi. Every car is different so you might be able to run 17psi and you might not. That will have to be your call, from reading EGT's or some type of logging device. I would just get some 550's to be on the safe side. It's not like the Big28 is going to be slow without the upgraded 17lb actuator, but it definitely helps. With that being said, I myself ran the FP Big28 at 16 to 17psi depending temps outside at the time, with no problems at all. I was just running the walbro 255lph and stock injectors at that time. I now run 20psi daily with 550's, and supporting mods. Good luck:thumb:

generation x how is that setup working out for you? You have pretty much the same setup as Im looking for. Im still unsure though. I think I just want to go mild with my fwd because its a commuter. Heres what I was think in class today. Port my exhaust manifold to match the ported fp big 28 that is sitting in my room. Full 2.5 inch exhaust. Dejon hard intercooler piping and intake. 190 fuel pump and an ADFX big sidemount. Since this is my street car I was thinking about saving my gm maft crap and greddy profec b for the "weekend car". So here is a revision of my original question. Do you think that with the mods listed above I would be safe using the 17 pound actuator instead of a boost controller? Im just looking for some extra "pep" for street driving and on the road course.

I also wanted to add that I have a logger and EGT guage. I understand that every car behaves a little different and thats the only thing holding me back. I am thinking about calling FP and seeing if they can do a 14-15 pound actuator just to be on the safe side.

I just got off the phone with forced performance and they recommended I dont use that actuator without bigger injectors and management. They said it could spike up past 20psi! So scratch that idea. Ill just get my profec b on and use the gm maft to tune the injectors.

Yeah.. that's why I said in my earlier post, that if I were you I would get some 550's to be on the safe side. It's better to be safe than sorry. Good luck to you. :)
